isy99i IR upgrade

Featured Replies

Is it possible to upgrade an isy99i to IR myself? Are the IR boards available somewhere? Is the IR programming in ROM or on SD card? flash required? I'm assuming UDI is not interested in upgrading isy99i models anymore.

Thanks for your time. However I wasn't looking for purchase advice. If UDI is not interested in supporting ISY99i devices then they should let interested users discuss options. Posting such replies discourages discussion and puts posts in answered status. This is not helpful. My ISY99i performs all needed functions very well and an upgrade costs about 10 times as much as an ISY99i. Actively discouraging users from discussion of legacy products while possibly boosting sales, may also discourage potential customers from considering UDI products as long term support may become the deciding factor in purchase decisions. And of course there are other forums to post inquiries about your legacy products.

The ISY99i was discontinued years ago. . The product is no longer supported or available.  The newer Insteon devices require newer versions of the ISY firmware which is supported by the ISY994. I doubt that there are any forums or discussion groups for the 99i.

The ISY99i can't be updated beyond firmware 3.3.10. As the later firmware that supports most of all the presently  sold modules will not fit into a ISY99i memory. So if you get any new modules they probably will not be supported,

They do have a ISY99i to ISY994i upgrade listed near the bottom of their sales page.

For $99 I can buy 2,3, or even 4 ISY99i boxes. They work fine with my present X10 equipment. I have 3. Only one has IR which works great with my Harmony remote. But it would be nice to have IR in the other 2 boxes. I am just wondering if it is only a matter of finding the IR board or if firmware for IR is required that can only be added by UDI. I think I tried swapping the board into another unit and it didn't work. Maybe I didn't try swapping SD card at same time.

Thank you for the added information. On you using the ISY99i for X10 automation. The ISY99i should be fine for X10.

There was a $5.00 purchase module in the help Purchase Module tab. Needed for the IR added board. I believe it was tied to the unique UUDI  of the ISY99i or ISY994i you added the board to. So the IR board you moved it to does not have the IR enabled.

Here is the link to the Wiki information on adding the IR board and purchasing the firmware module after adding the board to the ISY99i or ISY994i.

If you go to the Purchase Module Tab in the Help section. On the ISY99i that has the IR board working. It should show that the IR module for the installed IR board is installed.

On the other ones it may show as available but since it is a ISY99i I am not sure.

I vaguely remember someone purchasing the module before adding the board to the ISI99i. Things got flaky.

The Help Tab. About choice. Will also tell you what  firmware and UI are installed. Along with the modules UUID and any added purchased modules that are installed.

And all 2, 3 or 4 of them will be unsupported. That’s why they are so cheap on the used market.
