ELK or Ring/Nest?

I do most of my programming from the ISY; it more powerful in general.

I do have sensors on my shed and I created a program to tell me that the 'someone opened the shed'. I am also going to do that for the garage. It lets me figure out what is going on around my house.

On the ISY I have set it up to turn off the lights 50 seconds after I 'arm away'.

I have created an Alexa routine that works with an ISY program that responds to "good night" and sets the alarm to STAY, locks my front door,  and shuts off my lights.

I am also a new Elk user so if anyone else has ideas; I am listening!!!

Can you guys share some common scenarios for tasks, programs, etc?

I would use ISY for most things because it is 1) nicer to have things in one place, 2) can be organized, and 3) more capable, or at least more capable without jumping through so many hoops.

Exceptions:

1) If you want to trigger some program from an Elk keypad, then you need to make it a task.  Of course the actual program could still be on ISY and the task could simply pop an output on for a second and ISY could listen for that in the "if" section

2) If it is more than just an HA thing.  Anything that is important enough in the security system environment that you wouldn't want a failure in your LAN or ISY to impede its execution.

@rubenhak,

I use SimpliSafe. I love it.

With kind regards,

Do you know if they ever fixed their wireless keyfob security issue? I got one and then realized that it was sending an unencrypted disarm to the base station. A simple device could repeat the signal and disarm (similar to the garage door openers of yesteryear). When I contacted SimpliSafe, they said the odds of someone doing it was remote. Made me wonder...

@smithlevenson,

I don't. If that's really the case, then it's quite horrible.

With kind regards,
Michel

That was still kind of in the early adopter stage, so it's possible they have improved over the last 4 years. I just found it funny that something that was a problem for the garage door industry in the 90's was so easily dismissed by a security company in 2015.
