Can a Wallmote Quad directly control an ISY scene?

I am using 5.0.14 with the new Z-Wave board.

Just added a Wallmote Quad but have not found it very useful controlling an ISY Scene containing a Homeseer WD200+ dimmer.

Adding the Wallmote created 20 nodes in ISY. The Wallmote is currently USB-powered while I try to get this working

     -  The 4 Binary Switch 2 nodes have a status field that is always blank. If I included any one of these in my scene, as a controller, the scene does not respond when the button is pushed.

     -  The 4 Scene button nodes, if added to scenes, can only turn the scene on. To turn the lights off, I need to create another scene and add one of the other buttons to that scene.

     -  The 4 Dimmer nodes show an alternating 0%-100% status in the Admin console but cannot control a scene.

Has anyone successfully used Wallmotes to control scenes or are these only useful to trigger programs?

I know this does not help with scenes but my two wallmotes also come up with 20 entries each.  I use them to control 4 lights with associated on/off  toggle programs.  I can tell you that it is a physically solid device.  Mine have been dropped many times.  However, they are a bit sensitive to the way they are touched.  I suspect that they are trying to differentiate one click vs double click, etc.  I have not found a lot of quality compatible ZWave keypads.  Good luck.  Please keep us updated on your progress.

It's supposed to be able to control a scene. I've had a similar experience in that only "on" has worked and "dim up" sort of works. I have yet to get "dim down" or "off" to work. The haptic dim up control seems to cause the ISY to go into a "busy" state with a lot of commands queued to be sent and the haptic dim down doesn't seem to be recognized.

For now I'm simply using them to trigger programs via the Dimmer nodes.

However, after quite a bit of reading regarding Z-wave association groups (and the lack of standards with Z-wave and only marginally, IMHO, better with Z-wave plus) it appears they would still be limited to only supporting "native" Z-wave scenes with Z-wave plus devices (in general) due to the way association groups work.

I'm happy for someone to tell me I've completely misunderstood the association group situation - please, tell me I'm mistaken.

Thanks for your replies and for confirming that I am not missing something.

I agree with KSchex, the Wallmote seems very well built. I am looking forward to adding more of these.

I have upgraded to 5.0.16B and successfully linked 2 Aeotec 4-button WallMote’s (19 ISY nodes), but have similarly experience with only being able to use them to trigger programs to run with the 4 buttons (I have written several inactive toggle programs for lights, and then call them with WallMote Scene Buttons.).

Has anyone been successful at getting them to control scenes, or been able to use the dimmer feature?  If so I would love to know how.

See reason 2 posts above you. With the way zwave handles scenes, programs is the best way

A complete answer is a bit complicated. I posted about my experience with the Wallmote Quad last year (or maybe the year before; life's been busy for a bit).

The short version is that if you use native Z-Wave scenes (association groups) then the full Z-Wave functionality should work, but everything it controls must be Z-Wave only. Unfortunately, because I have a mix of Insteon an Z-Wave I needed to control I didn't bother to try it.

If, like me, you need to control a scene (or devices) with a mix of Insteon and Z-Wave then you need to use programs. This turned out to be ideal for my use cases anyway. The Quad I primarily use is in the room with my bicycle trainer when I use it to control the fans I have setup in the room. With the simple on/off states I have programs which set a state variable to one or zero which then triggers another program to perform various actions.

Two of the programs correspond to two of the buttons and simply turn on and off one fan each. The other two programs are the "warm weather" and "cold weather" training programs. The former turns three fans simultaneously and the later turns them all on one by one over a period of 20 minutes.

So, for the moment I simply use programs which set state variables based upon the button presses on the Wallmote.

Cheers

All...I had two Wallmotes purchased at different times, that I have been trying to use for over a year.  Neither were reliable, trying a repeater and moving them near the ISY didn't help.  The worst part was that the constant errors seem to slow down ISY response.  Well, no more.  I replaced them with an Ardruino UNO WIFI R2, some C software (REST interface), switches, and misc parts.  Bedside light control is 100% now.  Attached is a pic of my "proto" unit.
