ELK Sensors - Speed/Reliability?

Something that I'm picky about are sensors and their speed and reliability.  I have gone through Z-Wave, ZigBee and Insteon and I've found that of them ZigBee has the fastest response for sensors because of not "sleeping" and Insteon is excellent especially motion sensors in scenes.  Z-Wave well.... I don't use them for fast or important things :)

I do not have a security system.  Really don't need one but I'm curious about the sensors for ELK and their performance/reliability in relation to using them in conjunction with the ISY for programs?  I know lots of people have ELK and recommend it.  Can people chime in about the speed of sensors being used in programs?  Mostly wireless door sensors are of interest at first then with possible inclusion of some wired motion sensors and some wired smoke/co at some point.  The motion and smoke/co I can go through the attic.  The door/window I can't run wires "nicely" and this is all retrofit for an old house.

I'm also interested in other ideas/uses for the ELK system with combining it with the ISY and other systems?  Who creative can you get?

I use Elk wireless motion sensors with ISY programs. My experience is they are very reliable but are slower than Insteon motion sensors in similar programs. I've attributed the difference in speed because the Elk programs run another program in the "Then" that triggers the device and the Insteon MS programs trigger the device in the "Then" in the program.

Agree. With Elk you have to trigger the zone then the ISY module sees that and then acts. With insteon if the device is linked to a scene its faster. If the insteon device is in a program then the time seems to be 1ms or so faster than the Elk.

For example my pantry had a door sensor linked to the Elk and turned the light on quickly. I had insteon motion in a closet took longer to turn on the light based on a program. However I had a motion in a scene with insteon and it was faster. Though YMMV depending on communications, hops, system size, etc.

That's pretty fast.

This probably won't help much, as I don't have Elk wireless, but I do turn on my garage lights (Elk --> ISY --> SwitchLinc) when I open the door to enter.  The lights are on very quickly, just milliseconds after the Elk notices the door is open (the light is turned on by an ISY program).  Below is a short snippet from the Event Viewer, though the 2 second lag reported isn't accurate.  The lights are generally on before I take the first step through the door (slightly quicker than Z-Wave), but I run some programs, set some variables, etc. after the door opens that might have something to do with the reported delay in the Event Viewer.  Over CAT5, the Elk send a signal to the ISY very quickly.  For me, the question is simply how much latency Elk wireless introduces.  Elk M1 --> ISY is fast and reliable, in my installation.

This is the exact scenario I'm trying to get to be reliable and fast.  I have this currently with Insteon open/close sensors (new versions).  A couple times a week I go out to the garage and nothing... no lights at all...

Then there are the other times which is more frequent of I go out the door and nothing... and I wait... 3, 4, 5 seconds somewhere between 3 - 5 seconds the lights finally come on.

Oh wow. Elk is way faster than that.

It's just annoying as it's not all the time.  Some/most of the time things are nice and fast and working... then no rhyme/reason changes nothing just either nothing or very slow response.  I attribute it to the sensors because it's the same story on multiple doors where I have the same scenario of turn on the lights.
