WEIRD addressing (why?)

Recommended Posts

I have an outdoor switch (irrelevant) that i reset.... addressing totally threw me off...

It comes up as one address in the address, another in the name.
I'm guessing the real address is 25.C6.0F but why the confusion??  (Do zero's get dropped sometimes??)

In the event log it appears two different ways... like it's throwing out the "0"

Hey Fred!

Good question but when you use addresses of devices you always have to add the "1" digit on the end. Like the Integer and State variables I always considered it like a page address for future expansion.

As a guess, It may have something to do with the base node address, whereas multiple node devices, like stats may have higher numbers for different nodes.

With hexadecimal byte representation some eliminate leading zero values whereas some always include them to indicate it is an eight bit value = 256 bits. Mostly just preference.

If your device has multiple nodes then the last digit in the address is the node number i.e. 02.0F.B3 4

In the case of multiple nodes in an address the ZERO in the address may not show as it's ignored in a hex address, i.e. 02.F.B3 4

When you install a device the ISY always requires the full 6 digit address.

It's just weird that where it' s displayed, to the untrained eye it looks hellishly like

25.C6.F1 (with just a weird little space between)...
(to the right of "Address" below in graphic)

so i embossed that address (I've had the printed disappear)...
(as i said, it threw me off for a while)...

ahhhhh. I missed the second example posted. The first one is easily clear but the F 1...I see your point. Maybe a hyphen or two spaces, or a period, as in some other occurrences.
