ISY994 in safe mode after Z-wave module install

Featured Replies

I am having problems with ISY994/IR-PRO in safe mode after adding z-wave module and upgrading to v.5.0.15.a. If I remove the z-wave module, the PLM is recognized again. plug in the z-wave module and back to safe mode again. Previous version: 4.7.3.

Did you use the correct firmware update file?  There are two.  One for PLM + Z-wave and another for Z-Wave only.  I found the instructions confusing at first but the one for Insteon PLM inclues the Z-Wave as well so use that one and NOT the one specifically marked Z-Wave.

I used the PLM + Z-Wave one.

Hmmm odd.  Perhaps it didn't take correctly?  Have you flashed it again with the z-wave module installed and plm connected?

Yes, no difference. I am seeing loss of communication to Insteon devices now as well. If I unplug the PLM for a bit and plug it back in, it works briefly. Maybe I have a bad 2413S PLM. My current one is 4 years old.

It's possible.  I would contact support or wait for someone else to see if they know any tricks as this is odd.

I highly doubt that there is something wrong with the plm. If there was, you would be in safe mode whether zwave was hooked up or not. Did you clear your java cache after upgrading?

I did clear the java cache.

Make sure your plm is powered up prior to powering up your isy.

Did that as well.

What's the firmware and UI

Which Zwave dongle are you using the 300 series or the 500 series?

Safe mode indicates that the ISY is unable to communicate with the PLM

I just purchased it from Orchestrated Home - P/N 994iZW-Kit which is supposed to be the 500 series.

Were you using a prior version of Zwave or is this your first venture into Zwave using the 500 series board.

If this is your first Zwave board for this ISY did you activate the Zwave board via UDI.

Activation Instructions

Once the module has been installed (please see assembly instructions below), you will need to purchase the Z-Wave Module by going through Help | Purchase Modules | Z-Wave Module in the Admin Console. The price will be $1.00.

First time with Z-wave. Been using Insteon/X10 for 10+ years.

I did activate Z-wave board via UDI.

Assuming that the board is plugged into the correct set of contacts on the ISY there's a remote chance that there's a problem with the Zwave board.

In the admin console click on HELP | ABOUT. Under product does it show Z-Wave

If so then It's best to submit a support ticket:      http://www.universal-devices.com/contact-support

I replaced the PLM and all is well.
