Anything like a Homeseer Zee “remote connection” for the ISY?

As much as I complain about certain ISY things (mostly the user interface), I have to admit that it is, and for years has been, absolutely rock solid reliable. I currently have an ISY in one building of a property, and a Raspberry pi running Homeseer in another (their Zee S2 device). This two-controller approach is working well, but I keep thinking that I might want to manage just one system. The problem is, the ISY just can’t reach the other building with z-wave, even with Aeotec repeaters. Homeseer, on the other hand, has a “Zee-net” device that I could place in the second building, connected via ethernet over cat 5/6 (I have a few pairs running between the buildings), that should allow me to control both buildings with a single device. If I wanted to take that approach with the ISY, I would need a similar, hardwire-connecting device. Is such a device available for the ISY?

The ISY-Net nodeserver is in functional beta at the moment and is available for testing.  It mirrors the z-wave devices from one ISY and presents those devices to a primary ISY for status/control and use of the devices in programs.

Hi @simplextech. I know nothing about nodeservers, but if I’m ever going to learn, the next 3 weeks are possibly a good time. How do I obtain this for testing/learning, please? Thanks in advance.

Do you have Polyglot installed?

If not then that is your first step.  The easiest to get started is with a raspberry Pi to install Polyglot on.

Polyglot Information/Install Instructions

Alternative is to use PolyBox which is a all in one raspberry Pi image you can use to install the raspberry Pi and it has Polyglot, Node.JS and Node-RED pre-installed.  You can find the download in my signature.  I recommend using Balena Etcher to write the image to an SD Card.

Once Polyglot is installed and setup you can browse to the Polyglot Store and select the ISY-Net nodeserver for install.  The nodeserver is designed around using a secondary ISY that contains/manages Z-Wave devices and the primary ISY being a central control unit.  This nodeserver is still in early Beta but I released to get testing and feedback.

The absolute easiest method to do this is to wait until Polisy is released.

Hi simplextech.

First, I greatly appreciate your response, and the opportunity. That said, and after considerable thought, I think the remote location of this property means that early beta software is not an option at this time. It’s 2 miles down a dirt road, on an island with one other resident, in Maine. We are away from it for weeks (4-6 or more) at a time. So, winter is not the best time to experiment, sadly. I will spend the next few weeks learning more about polyglot and nodeservers, and hope to be of greater use to you come late spring. Please do keep me posted if you don’t mind, as I think what you are developing is sorely needed.

Thank you,

Joe
