andrew77 Posted December 28, 2019 Posted December 28, 2019 Hi guys, Just had a power failure and it seems I have another SWL down. When the power came back the light didn't. I air gapped it and it seemed to work on its own but not with the ISY. I restored it from the ISY and I thought it was working but no. I air gapped again and here's where things get weird. (this has happened to me before) After pushing in the air gap tab (not pushing it in fully and then releasing, just letting it click back in) it started going from dimmest to bright, over and over again. I pushed the tab in and waited a few seconds. It then started the same cycling but much faster. (If needed I have a video of the weirdness) its a Switch Linc Dimmer 2476D V.27 Any ideas as to what this is all about would be great.
larryllix Posted December 28, 2019 Posted December 28, 2019 To factory reset a switchlinc the tab button must be pressed and held until all beeps stop....without any time in the on position.I have to use a small screwdriver or I can't do this correctly as it sounds like you did also. There needs to be a very small time between on and pressed in and held.Sent using Tapatalk
andrew77 Posted December 28, 2019 Author Posted December 28, 2019 Hi Larry, I don't think this SWL beeps. I thinks its older than that. Does that matter? Drew

I would think they beeped as that is the only way to tell if the button pushes actually worked for a few functions. Mine does a bunch of beeping and then a very long one. When that finally stops, and not before, the switchlinc is finally factory reset. Perhaps some of the more senior Insteon guys can chime in here. My devices are all less than about 5 years old versions.
apostolakisl Posted December 28, 2019 Posted December 28, 2019 2476d v27 is pretty old by my recollection. You don't hold the tab in nearly as long as the new ones and it doesn't do the beeping thing. I know this because I didn't read the instructions on the new ones and couldn't understand why they weren't factory resetting when I did it the old way. I had a number of the old 2476d's do things like yours after power failures and I was pretty much always able to get them back online. I would pull the tab and let it sit for a good 20 seconds then using a small screwdriver cleanly push the tab in and all the way down in one motion holding it there for a good 10 seconds. But, I would suggest instead that you buy new 2477d with dual band. They are much better in lots of ways including durability. I have never had one fail. You missed your big chance at Christmas, they were $20/ea with free shipping. But if you are patient, I'm sure they will do that again.
andrew77 Posted December 28, 2019 Author Posted December 28, 2019 Larry, I pulled the tab out and counted forever then pushed it fully in with no delay in between and held it for again, the aforementioned amount of time. Just setting it up now. Hopefully it works. apostolakisl, Your response popped in as I was typing. I had already ordered 3 on sale but where did you find them for $20 each? I've never seen them that cheap. UPDATE: So the load on this SWL has been flickering bright and dim for a little while now. I assumed it was because of power surges out here. I'm now guessing the SWL is on its way out. Its 70% reliable as far as testing goes here tonight. I'll replace it with a new one and see how that goes tomorrow. I'll admit to the drawer of broken Insteon switches sadly. Can I hook them up to a three prong plug with Romex and reset/ try to see if I can get them to work? I don't see why not as I think the old old KPLs used to have a wired cradle you could just plug in. Drew
apostolakisl Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 SH had daily sales before Christmas with the 2477d's $20/ea twice during that time (free shipping). Pretty much everything that is normally $49 was $20 at some point.
larryllix Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 From Canada you need to order large quantities to make it pay. SH changes $40-$60 shipping and you wouldn't have a warranty as the return shipping is more than the device it worth. I use aartech.ca, as they typically end up being cheaper, no matter how cheap SH sells them for. https://www.aartech.ca/2477d-5pk/smarthome-insteon-switchlinc-dimmer-5-pack-promo.html Sale ends Dec 31
andrew77 Posted December 29, 2019 Author Posted December 29, 2019 That’s where I stocked up a few days ago. Should get them tomorrow. I think I got the 3 for $130 or something close to that.

I assume this must have to do with taxes.

I assume this must have to do with taxes. The taxes, if all above board, are extra from that. SH is typical and charges about $48 to ship and we pay taxes on that too.I see the taxes happening inside the US also but a few decades behind. You have external affairs to pay for yet. However your shipping rates are unheard of in Canada.Sent using Tapatalk

Even at retail prices USPS will ship a 1 pound box for like $8 anywhere in the US. There must be a lot of hidden taxes or costly regulations built into that price.
