jkraus Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Please, anyone to help. I had recently had new baseboard put in my house and as a result had many lamplincs and the ISY and PLM unplugged for several days. After re-installing all I am now having communication errors. The lights and such all work fine,, but the programmed events such as lights on at sunset and off at 11pm are hit an miss so seems to be an ISY issue. I have at least 5 APs around the house and I think I "re-assembled" all the same as before, but there could be some small differences. The programs seem to execute OK when run from the program console when selecting to execute the "then", but I have only tried this a few times so perhaps if I did it more I would duplicate these intermittent failures. I hope to resolve quickly, so if someone can suggest the steps to debug this it would be greatly appreciated Joe
RatRanch Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Hi Joe, Just a couple of quick thoughts: Did you install *electric* baseboard heaters? I'd imagine that could be a source of interference and/or Insteon signal attenuation. If so, test by shutting off the associated circuit breaker(s). 5+ APs might actually be counterproductive. Even though nothing should have changed from your previous stable installation, you might want to test stability with 3 APs: one on each phase, as close to the electric panel as possible and one close to the ISY. Again, nothing should have changed, but if it's feasible, see if you can get your ISY installed closer to the electric panel. If signal attenuation is the problem, this might get your setup stable again. Hope you get it sorted out soon! -Jim
jkraus Posted August 31, 2009 Author Posted August 31, 2009 thanks! No new electrical heaters, just baseboard. I did not know that you could have too many APs, will try to reduce Thanks Joe
jkraus Posted August 31, 2009 Author Posted August 31, 2009 one other question. Between the PLM and the wall socket I did install of wall receptacle expander or what ever you call those plug ins that take a two socket outlet into a 6 socket outlet. Thins that could possibly be an issue? Joe

Joe That could definitely be a troublemaker, especially if you've got noisy and/or Insteon signal sucking equipment--computers, televisions, xenon lighting, air conditioner, etc.--plugged into those extra outlets that were just added!
jkraus Posted August 31, 2009 Author Posted August 31, 2009 I have the same equipment plugged in as before, and all the other equipments plugged in isolated with an X10 isolation filter, no difference than before, just a 2 to 6 outlet (not a surge suppressor). Of course easy to remove, but since things are intermittent, wanted to focus on the most likely culprits Joe
jkraus Posted September 1, 2009 Author Posted September 1, 2009 OK, Looks like I figured it out. When I replugged everything into the socket that the PLM plugs into the isolation X10 filter was on the wrong side of the extension cord so all of the TV and DVR was not isolated. Now that it is seems to be working OK
