Hi,

I am finally upgrading from my old ISY-99i/IR Pro which has mostly died to a new ISY-994 IR PRO. Should arrive next week.

The old unit was backed up and I have the files. What do I need to do to get the new unit set up? Is it as simple as connecting and restoring from my backup or is the new device sufficiently different that I need to start from scratch. It's been years but I seem to recall that some of the programming or logic gets pushed down to the Insteon devices themselves. Any concerns there?

Thanks!

Since you're coming from the 99 it'll be more involved. The new unit should be on the 5.0 firmware. I don't know if migration from the 3.0 series firmware would be different than from 4.0.

To be safe, I'd downgrade the software to 4.8 and then use your backup file to to restore to the new isy. You can then upgrade to the 4.8 again

Once done, you can decide whether or not you want to go to 5.0

Unless you have hundreds of programs, network resources, and other. The time to hard reset and add back all of existing gear will save your sanity and hair on your head. Just print out the *Topology Report* and save it as a file to your local computer system. This will provide you the insight as to what devices were linked to what etc. Keep in mind you can backup programs, network resources, etc besides the full backup.

All of those should be done regardless what path you decide to follow . . .

Having migrated quite a few people from 99 Series Controller who were rocking 2.XX / 3.XX firmware was - painful!

$85.00 an hour adds up really fast for eight hours of just sitting around - waiting . . .
