rchairston
Hello community! I am having to replace switches in my home that i didn't set up. I replaced the switch but in ISY the switch is not working when I click find new device and there is an Exclamation beside the name. How do you set a new switch into your current ISY? I thought just replacing the switch would be simple. Link to comment
gdykstra
Step #1: First remove the old switch that you are replacing from it's current folder (right click). This will relocate it to the top of the tree under "My Lighting" Step #2: Install the new switch (must be the same kind) and record the ID # XX.XX.XX Step #3: Use "Add new Device" to find and rename the new device (will also now be found at the top of the tree under "My Lighting") Step #4: Right Click on the old device and choose "Replace "Old Device Name" with "New Device Name". All settings will now be transferred to the new device and system will shut off. Restart system and let the routine finish Step #5: Move the new device to the correct folder 2 Link to comment
rchairston
Thank you for the response, I had to switch out the older switch which was 2467S to 2477S bc the old switch was discontinued. Still having trouble getting the switch linked and activating the light. Link to comment

You can also right click on any program and use the find and replace menu to swap the old name for the new device's name in all programs. Check your scenes after. They would need to be swapped manually. Link to comment
Sticklizard
The replacement process is quite horrible and needs to be fixed. Sorry to say that as of 5.3.0 it's just as bad. Link to comment

Link the new device to ISY Name the old device with an added XX to the end of the name. Name the new device to the old device's original name. Use the replace NAME XX with NAME Save the programs. Done. Takes about 45 seconds. No guessing. No getting from to mixed up or remembering a process you only use about every two years. Edited November 7, 2020 by larryllix 1 Link to comment

This might work as well if you rely exclusively on programs, but for those who use scenes extensively, it may fall a little short. I have used the "replace device" function only a couple of times, but it has seemed to work for me. I would rather use this than manually delete the old device from the existing scenes, and manually adding the new device to those same scenes. 2 Link to comment
hart2hart
Use replace device in ISY. That feature for Insteon is worth the price if ISY. Ive got very large scenes and it has worked every time for 12 years. Loved it as I moved to dual band devices after big smart home sales. Only limitation is you can not replace unlike devices. Say a relay with a dimmer. Also, if it impacts battery operated device, you’ll need to wake them up and apply the changes. Kinda surprised that all with Insteon don’t feel like this is gold. But to each his/her own. 1 Link to comment
xlurkr
Funny. I just had a ToggleLinc completely die on me, and I replaced it in < 5 minutes, excluding the wiring and mounting labor. It was in many scenes, and was linked to an MS I. If I hadn't had to wake up the MS to get the ISY to rewrite its links, it would have been about 2 minutes. Pure gold. -Tom 2 Link to comment
