Hello All,

Now that 5.3.0 is an official non-beta release it seemed high time to upgrade.

Being a Z-Wave user I acquired a 500 series dongle first.  Then Z-Wave backup, ISY backup, upgrade hardware, upgrade software to 5.3.0.  All good.

Final step was to restore Z-Wave.  Attempting that resulted in an unpainted error dialog immediately followed by the not restored dialog.  Additional attempts yielded the same results (an unpainted error dialog followed by the restore failed dialog).  After logging in/out a couple of times I tried again and got "Change of state failed: SID not found [uuid:0]" as the dialog before the restore failure.

There is probably a FAQ somewhere gave me a hint or missed a step (some of the upgrade steps seemed a bit conflictuous) so feel free to send me an RTFM response.

Thanks in advance for suggestions.

Regards,
Neal

Others may have better suggestions, but personally, after changing the dongle,  I would have done the restore while still on 5.0.16, and then upgrade to 5.3

Thanks for the response.  I appreciate the help.

Hmm.. I was coming from 4.8 (the last non beta release).  The upgrade instructions were somewhat fuzzy.

I guess I could attempt backing down to 5.0.16 and then go to 5.3.  Is that the common path?

Neal

The ongoing, perpetual problem. Voiced many times. Consistently ignored.

I suggest filing a support ticket. When they have to deal with enough of them, they'll start thinking about how to prevent them.

These are the instructions for the zwave dongle upgrade from the Wiki:

Upgrading from 300 Series

If you are upgrading from the 300 series, make sure you do:

  • Z-Wave | Tools | Backup
  • File | Backup ISY
  • Follow the assembly instructions to swap the Z-Wave dongle with the 500 series version
  • Upgrade to 5.2.0 or above
  • Z-Wave | Restore

Sounds like you followed the correct procedure. Unfortunately, I have a feeling the zwave backup is faulty for some reason. Maybe doing a factory reset to the zwave dongle followed by a restored would help, but at this time I would suggest opening a support ticket first.

From experience and from what I have read, the passage from 4.X to 5.X may require special attention. I would first try to go from 4.8 to 5.16 (or even an earlier version) and then to 5.3  . However, if you have issues then send a ticket to UDI. Their support is superb.

@madcodger I am not sure that the tone is deserved.  UDI has excellent customer service and they deal with all issues, be it by priority, and as fast as a small (but highly qualified) team can.

More clues...

Tried again today.  Got the double dialog as usual.  But the Error dialog was "Subscriber didn't reply to event: 1 [30]".  So I guess they vary.

Also, while all of the programs are there are look perfect, none are running.  I renamed a program (because there are no comments available, so the name is the only comment you get :( ).  Suddenly all of the programs sprung to life.

Alas, it was no help for Z-Wave.

They have excellent customer service for things they deem to be a problem. They're a smart group of folks, and likely very well intentioned, but if they don't agree that they HAVE a problem they just ignore it. They don't seem to think their instructions and documentation (a form of user interface) are a problem, while others disagree. Most of those "others" just give up and move on to some other platform/device/system. I'm just suggesting that if enough customers say, "Hey -- wait a minute...", it might one day have an effect.

I hang in there because I think they're worth it. I continue to voice my observations and concerns for the same reason. It's not that I think they're "bad". It's that I think they can be better, and many would benefit if they were.
