Internet Access Problem

Niccolo

Recommended Posts

I am sure this has come up before and pardon the inexperience. My internet access to the htps: address generated by isy has failed twice now after a week or so -- I get a message saying the page cannot be found. The fix has been to disable internet access, then enable, which gives me a new https address, and then I reconfigure everything and it works. Why is this happening and is there a way to fix it.

Thanks.

Hi Niccolo,

No worries at all.

The reason this happens is that your ISP's provided IP address changes and ISY has no way of knowing that.

The best solution which will work 99.9% of the time is this:

1. Go to File | Disable Internet Access

2. Configure your ISY with a static IP address: http://www.universal-devices.com/mwiki/ ... IP_Address

3. Create a manual port forwarding rule in your router to point to ISY's IP address and secure port (443) (http://portforward.com)

4. Setup your router with Dynamic DNS the result of which is a) you will connect to your ISY using a domain name (instead of IP) and B) the domain name remains constant even if your ISP changes the IP address

With kind regards,

Michel

set up DDNS name and port forwared, but when I go to the DDNs name I set up instead of getting the ISY login screen I get the login screen for my router.

Hi jkraus,

Two recommendations:

1. Turn of remote admin on your router OR

2. Change ISY's HTTPS port to something other than 443 (e.g. 8443). When done, your URL will be https://your.dyndns.hostname:8443 .

With kind regards,

Michel

Thanks Michel, getting close.

Actually my problem seemed to be that I was trying this from my home computer on same network, but now at work it is OK, well sort of.

I get to the certification screen and it asks for login and password, I put in my isy admin and password, then goes to the web screen with devices and scenes listed and it works OK and can make lighting changes and seems to work, but when I click on the "Administration Console" the console opens with the blue screen and the menu items but not my lighting or programs or devices. In other words it loos like the admn console, but blank of my information.

I know I am close, can you help?

Hi jkraus,

Please try the following:

1. Go to http://www.universal-devices.com/99i/2.7.6/admin.jnlp

2. You will see a Not Found dialog (if you are remote)

3. Click on the Add button and then enter your URL (https://your.dyndns.host)

4. If this is found, you will see another device added to the list. Double click it

Let me know if this works.

Thanks and with kind regards,

Michel

Thought I would respond on the Forum, so all could see:

First of all Michel, you are great. You logged on in via a net meeting an quickly confirmed the problem was my work's firewall blocking Java but the HTML page would get through. In any case you really know your stuff! Thanks!

To confirm, after you got off the call, I dialed up over my sprint 3G modem to get from under our corporate firewall, and indeed, no issue the admin console came up fine.

Thanks

Joe

Michel:

I am afraid I am going to need help of a more basic nature.

First, on the command prompt telnet screen where it asks for IP address -- where do I get that? I see what to do on subnet mask, but the router information -- where do I find that? I have Verizon FIOS internet access through a D-link router, but I use Airport Extreme as the in-house wifi.

Second, on port forwarding, is that something I do on Airport Extreme and how so?

Thanks.
