silverton38 Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 There is a bunch of brand new Insteon devices made by Nokia. They look amazing but are they going to be compatible with the ISY (In particular the 4 button keypadlinc style switch)? Here is the link https://nokia.smartlabsinc.com/collections/nokia 1

MrBill Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 @silverton38 There's at least 2 threads on Nokia.. one is in the Coffee shop, the other might be the tail end of a long thread in the Smarthome section. there might be more mentions, the news hit around before the end of July
Brian H Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 (edited) UDI has posted. If they are not given the proper information. To have an ISY994i properly control them. They will not be supported. Just existing Insteon modules. Edited August 12, 2021 by Brian H 3
LFMc Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 Nokia doesn't make, sell or distribute anything from Smartlabs. Smartlabs just licensed the name Nokia as their brand. 2

I will try their hub if the ISY does not work but I suspect they will support it fast because there is not much of a stretch between these devices and other Insteon devices. I think the switch and dimmer might work out of the box but the 4 switch (Kepadlinc) style switch will not.

I think the switch and dimmer might work out of the box but the 4 switch (Kepadlinc) style switch will not. None of them are supported by the Isy. While they will add as an unsupported device, you will not receive device status from them or change modes ie: the dimmer will not be able to become a relay and the relay will not be able to become a dimmer. You can send basic commands from the Isy but that would be it. Your suspicion would be incorrect. UDI has already stated their stance in regards to these devices and no, they will not be supporting them AT ALL without full documentation and support from smartlabs which will not happen anytime soon. There is a much bigger divide between these devices and standard insteon devices than you realize. The only similarity between these and standard devices is how they communicate. UDI could reverse engineer the protocol for basic support. However without the API and access to insteon servers, most of the differentiating features would be left out Edited August 12, 2021 by lilyoyo1 1
larryllix Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 I wonder how Nokia can get all the ICs they need but Smartlabs can't.

Additionally, larger companies typically have more buying power than smaller companies. It's why you'll see Amazon carrying stuff that your local dealer may not be able to get right now. 1

silverton38 Posted August 12, 2021 Author Posted August 12, 2021 As stated it is definitely Smartlabs that is making the devices. It has not stopped me from pre-ordering and I will use the new Hub if I have to.
silverton38 Posted August 12, 2021 Author Posted August 12, 2021 I do wish someone at SmartLabs had some brains and sent the information to Universal Devices considering that they have supported Insteon from well over a decade. 1

There's a whole debate/discussion on another thread about this and the path they are taking at this time. It's not a lack of brains but a decision to take a different path Edited August 12, 2021 by lilyoyo1 2
Brian H Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 (edited) If anyone is interested. The link Mr Bill provided to the wall switch. The specification information shows it has an FCC ID SBP WALL. The internal photos, external photos, tests and a uses manual are all listed and you can download them. As I have done. I did not see a six digit Insteon ID on it but that doesn't mean it doesn't use one. Edited August 12, 2021 by Brian H Add information

If Alexa can control it Ninsteon must allow her (it) to create devices to work with. If these devices are able to be put into Alexa routines than they are available to be manipulated via an ISY. I use this method to interface LoRa and other things that do not offer an official API and it works surprisingly well. I also notice there are no motion sensors, or sensors of any kind from Nokia. Apart from schedules or sunrise/sunset triggers what kind of automation can you actually do with this system? I guess we will know soon. "Shipping late September" means the preorders should start going out no later than Thursday! Edited September 27, 2021 by upstatemike

"Shipping late September" means the preorders should start going out no later than Thursday! The devices work with Alexa and Google home. Homekit coming sometime soon as well as the motion sensor. They'll work with Alexa like any other device (don't use Alexa for automation so I can't say how deep). It's a basic app for general use. Outside of timer offsets, it allows for device configuration and schedules Edited September 28, 2021 by lilyoyo1
