Insteon -- Creating "N-way" scenes

I've been using HouseStink and am sick and tired of dealing with its quirks. I've spent hundreds of hours programming my house and want a better solution.

I am strongly considering getting an ISY, but want to know how the following situation is handled:

Let's say you have 5 Switchlinc's that you want grouped so that each switch controls the other switches so that when any switch is pressed the same level and ramp rate is used.

The way this is done with Houselinc (and even PowerHome) is a giant chore. In the software you have to go to each controller switch and add the others, then repeat the process again for each switch in the group.

Thanks

Hi fasttimes,

In ISY, the process is quite simple and done it 4 steps

1. Highlight all those switches and drag and drop them into a scene

2. In the next dialog, make all of them controllers

3. Have coffee while ISY programs all these devices with cross links

To make all of the switches have the same on level ramp rate:

1. Adjust the on level/ramp rate at the Scene

2. For each controller that you wish to have the same on level/ramp/rate click a button called "Apply Attributes from Scene"

With kind regards,

The IR version includes an IR receiver on the front of the unit that you can use to trigger ISY Programs with a universal remote control. This allows you to control INSTEON and other devices with your universal remote control.

Ah, so I for multi-room access I would obviously need an IR solution like the older IR over coax with the targets/injectors?

Or like you suggested, some kind of an IR repeater. I use a Niles IR repeater over Cat5 to keep my ISY in the basement while I control my lighting in the theater. You can also purchase RF IR repeaters.

Some high-end universal remotes also feature RF receivers that you can locate with your equipment, out of sight from the remote control.
