Polisy/ISY/Insteon/Z-wave question

My apologies. I'm a ISY994 user with about 150 devices, simple routines, but to be honest up

front and candid, I'm just not that smart. My apologies in advance for these questions. I've tried

to read the many postings regarding ISY running on Polisy, but I need it dumb'ed down:

Situation:

My serial PLM on 994 has failed. I've tried to repair using spare USB daughter board approach, but without success. I'm want  to

know if I can invest in a Polisy, and run a virtual ISY (yes, I understand I will need to need to start from scratch) and if the virtual

ISY is a viable option, is there a workaround the need for a serial PLM ? Does the Polisy need a PLM ? Can I use a USB version or

some other approach.

The lack of serial PLM replacement has basically shut my house down...(lesson learned)

Thanks in advance.

My end goal would be to be running the Polisy basically to replace the 994, and if it's available, run z-wave plus (if that's

available on Polisy)

Any directional guidance would be appreciated.

@SLP You can use either the serial or USB PLM with the Polisy. Also Michel mentioned early this week that they would have an ISY / NS migration tool available soon. So if you order a Polisy, by the time you get it, you might be able to just migrate your current config with a little TLC to some z-wave devices and programs.

Thank you kzboray.

The term PLM is used fairly commonly. I'm assuming that "PLM" really means just Smarthome/Insteon 2314S or are there other PLM that would work with Polisy and drive Insteon devices ?

(Sorry again for such a basic question...)

@SLP The Power Link Modules come in two flavors. USB or Serial connection. Here's the link for both, but only the USB version is available atm. There is a thread talking about the probable future availability of the serial version. Bottom line it's going to be a long wait for the serial version and since the USB works fine with the Polisy, you shouldn't have any difficulties.

Smarthome is sold out of all PLMs and won't have stock for the foreseeable future. However,  there's a few USB PLMs available on amazon for $20 over list price. This may be the last chance to pick one up.

I checked Amazon.com and the USB PLMs seem to be gone.  Amazon.ca has them for $187 which is ridiculous AND they ship from the US (weird).

Based on what I see on Smart Home's website, it looks like the Insteon days are coming to an end.

That said, I called SH to replace a dead Insteon Hub, which they did with no problem.

The SH rep said it's business as usual and they just waiting for Insteon product.

There are currently 7 USB PLMs available on Amazon

Thank you @Techman and @mmb and @kzboray. I appreciate the time and effort you

devoted to helping me.  I'll continue to try to repair existing PLMs, and then order a Polisy.

I do have have one question. For the Polisy, do I need to add/order anything additional to communicate with z-Wave Plus devices, or is that built into?

Working for me Polisy/ISY 2448A7

RF only dongle

gets repeated by powerline/rf devices in insteon mesh

Sounds like a good replacement for the usual serial PLM except ISY994 didn't have support for USB.

Great option for the polisy though, and no PSU caps to get zapped with powerline transients!

I'm using the 2448A7 also on Polisy with a few test devices.

Anyone know how the link table size compares with the 2413x PLMs?

From the 2448A7 QuickStart guide

Stores over 1,023 INSTEON Links in 64KB of non-volatile memory

Thanks!  For reference from the 2413S QSG

Stores over 2,016 INSTEON Links in 128Kb of non-volatile memory
