peterathans Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 Been an Insteon/ISY user for many years and love it, but am looking to migrate to a Polisy/z-wave system (getting worried about availability of Insteon products, as well as lifespan of critical components like the PLM). Still a Polisy newbie, but one question I haven't seen answered - does Polisy act like my old ISY, meaning I can program and run it locally, without the need for things like cloud servers or accounts that have monthly membership costs? Of course I'm assuming internet access (for things like sending email alerts) but I just don't want to get locked into paying a monthly membership fee for the next 10+ years.
larryllix Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 Polisy performs no differently than your ISY994.UDI maintains the same attitude to avoid cloud dependence. However, both offer many cloud features using vocal control and remote access etc. that obviously require cloud enhancements and dependence. Most users keep a cloud-free backdoor approach to important things.Sent from my SM-G781W using Tapatalk 1
Techman Posted December 21, 2021 Posted December 21, 2021 The Polisy which is an updated replacement for the ISY does not require a membership or incur any fees if you use it on your LAN. If you want remote access via the internet then you would need a Portal membership account.
peterathans Posted December 21, 2021 Author Posted December 21, 2021 So for example I currently use MobiLinc to talk with my ISY for remote access (directly connected at the WAN address) -- is this the same remote access mentioned above in "If you want remote access via the internet then you would need a Portal membership account."?

Yes you would need a Portal membership, which is really not expensive. Furthermore, and with all due respect to Wes, Mobilinc is no longer the game of the day. Now you should use UD Mobile (IOS or Android), or use Home Assistant, but the latter is a bit more complicated.

I gave up on Mobilinc when UD Mobile came out. 2
