Chris McKean Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 After converting to a new ISY, my email no longer works. I always used the default setting, but that doesn't work any more. This is my current system and software versions. When I test the email connection, I get the error: Mail server failure [unsupported authentication method] I also have Polisy , running several node servers on my ISY, as well as several Z-wave devices. I saw in another post that this version of the software had problems with email. Can I upgrade software without impacting anything else? thanks,
lilyoyo1 Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 If you do not use zwave then you must update to 5.3.4 1
Chris McKean Posted January 30, 2022 Author Posted January 30, 2022 I removed the default checkmark and used my google email. It now works. That seems to be the least disruptive change.

(I'm sorry...I forget how to tell the difference, but maybe @lilyoyo1 can help with the identification part, if you are unsure. I didn't specifically see it mentioned in his z-wave tips and tricks post. If you're on a 500 series board in the ISY994i then you would be best supported by upgrading to 5.3.4. The default will work. If you have a 300 series board you cannot go above 5.0.16C as that is the last firmware to support the older z-wave controller. Over a year ago the "Default" mail server was getting hammered by spammers and UD made changes to the authentication used in the firmware. That was updated in version 4.9 for the 4.x branch and I believe 5.2 in the 5.x branch. So if you meet the criteria to upgrade please upgrade to 5.3.4 as this is the current release and supported firmware. If you're "stuck" on 5.0.16C you can open a support ticket with UD and get information about setting up the default email service if needed. However... But you should still consider upgrading if you meet the requirements to go beyond 5.0.16C. Since you're already on the 5.x branch the upgrade should be straightforward and painless.
Chris McKean Posted February 1, 2022 Author Posted February 1, 2022 I read the article on Z-wave tips and tricks. My ISY doesn't have any light on the back of the controller, so I assume it is a 500 controller. I bought in on Amazon last year (2021), the description of the controller is: UD ISY994i ZW+/IR PRO: Z-Wave Plus Certified Home Automation Controller - Can I safely assume it is a 500 controller, or is there anything else I can check to insure I don't make a mess trying to upgrade?
