I am trying to link a keypadlinc button to a a simple scene that just includes a floor lamp. I just created a scene and added the Lamplinc and the KPL button.- when I press the KPL button the KPL button light will toggle on & off but the floor lamp does nothing. If I press & hold the KPL button, the lamp will fade on & off.

Any hints?

Thartmann,

Question: how about fast on/off? i.e. double click on the KPL button really quickly. If fast on/ff controls your lamp then the on level for the lamp for the KPL button is set to 0. To test:

1. Go to the scene where the KPL is the controller

2. Click on the KPL button within that scene

3. Make sure that the on level for the floor lamp is not zero (to your right)

If the on level is not zero, then try a Restore Device:

1. Right mouse click on the KPL and choose Restore Device menu option

2. Right mouse click on your floor lamp and choose Restore Device menu options.

I was having trouble getting an In-LineLinc Dimmer to dim properly in a scene. After reading this post I did a Restore Device and sure enough, the problem was solved. This should probably be the first thing to try when any device is not acting properly.

Is there a way to Restore a Scene, or does one have to Restore every device individually?

Rand, good point! No, at the moment there isn't a way to restore a scene. You have to restore each device or, if you have time, just do Restore Devices (in the File Menu) which restores all the devices from which point on all the devices and ISY configuration will be fully in synch.

With kind regards,

The trouble with Restore All Devices is that I always seem to have at least one unavailable Insteon device and the ISY then quits instead of skipping the bad device (it seems like it, at least).

If I could restore by groups it would limit the traffic and be easier to recover from an error. Can you add that to your Request List :)

Hi Sub-Routine,

This feature is already there, so it must a bug for your scenario. Normally, while Restore Devices runs it will skip over devices it cannot find/update.

Can you provide the exact details? I'd like to try to recreate the problem you are having.

I just realized one other thing. If at least one device is not restored you will get the beautifully cryptic "Request Failed" message. In this case it means just that, it could not update every device, but did update all the ones it could find.

I guess the feature request would be to display a more informative message, indicating which devices were not restored.

YES! That is what I meant.

The way I consistantly reproduce the error is to unplug a device. Some of my devices (3 LampLincs) are plugged into a power strip. The power strip controls power to my model trains and, more often than not, is turned off. The LampLincs are used to dim the low-voltage lights on the train layout.

But I have other devices that fail to communicate sometimes. It seems the PLM is not as reliable as the PLC, I was hitting over 99% with a PLC. The PLM is plugged into the same outlet that the PLC was. That is for a different thread, but it would be nice if the failed devices open a Device Communication Error requester.

Thank you,

Rand
