AZCRUM Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 I've gone through every instruction available on how to setup the UD mobile for Remote connection. Just can't get it to connection Remotely (Not local Connection). Hoping someone can help. Thanks
Geddy Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 Have you tried all steps in the wiki for remote access? Read here: https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=UD_Mobile#Remote_Connections Next question will be, what is your ISY Firmware version? What device are you running ISY on? (ISY994 or Polisy) Welcome to the forums. 1
MrBill Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 and in addition to @Geddy's questions, do you have a portal account? or are you trying to use a direct connection remotely?

(ISY994 or Polisy) Welcome to the forums. Good morning, and thank you for responding to my post. Yes, I’ve tried all steps. At this point, I think my lack of intuition when it comes to CA certificates is the problem. Although, I can’t say for sure that I have the correct format for my zip addresses (other apps I’ve setup just ask for the DDNS address) ISY Firmware ver: 5.3.4 Device: ISY994i -IR-PRO connected to: Powerlinc 2413S integration: Insteon & Elk Thank!

Good morning! I do not have a portal account. I would like to setup UD Mobile for direct connection remotely. thanks
Javi Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 Hi @AZCRUM, Have you already purchased a CA CERT? What is the error message when pressing "Test remote connection" button at the bottom of Remote Connection settings in the App's system settings? 1

Not sure the reason to want to go direct, but the portal account access is super easy, reliable, and cost effective! 2 years is a whopping $23 for the first two years then $20 for two years after that. For less than $1/mo you get all the great advantages of ISY Portal.

I think that is the step I'm missing. How does one purchase a CA cert? I did notice there were a number Ca cert set up when looking in the network setting. And then there's the server certs and the client certs. At the end of the day, I think getting past this stuff is the key... Thanks,

My mind set wasn't to go the super easy route, and so am getting bugged down trying to figure this out. Definitely not going to give up, not just yet. Thanks,

After pressing "Test remote connection" i get the "looking for isy" for quite a long time followed by: "Error Domain=NSURLErrorDomainCode=-1001 "The request timed out." userinfo={_KCFStreamErrorCodeKey=60, NSUnderlyingError=0x280c00000 {Error Domain-KCFErrorDomainCFNetwork Code=-1001 "(null)" UserInfo={_NSURLErrorNPathKey=satisfied (path is satisfied), interface:... Javi Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 The "Requests timed out" error is a connection error. So, the app cannot connect to the url provided. Certificate issues will have a security or handshake error. You should be able to access the ISY994 basic control from a browser using the same address. If you cannot access ISY from a browser UD Mobile will also not be able to access ISY.

Small tweak to the IP address and the error now reads: ErrorDomain=NSURLErrorDomainCode=-1202 "The Certificate for this server is invalid. You might be connecting to a server that is pretending to be "xxx.xx.xxx.xx" which could put your confidential information at risk" the xx.xx.... is my correct iP address. So if I can be pointed to a step by step on how to convince UD Mobile that I'm fine with my server, that would be fantastic.

I believe I need to resolve this CA cert issue.
Javi Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 Assuming you can access your ISY from the same remote remote url. If your certificate is invalid you would have had to override the browser security warning, or may show as insecure in the address bar. Please refer to the UD Mobile wiki regarding Trusted CA Certificates. You will need to purchase one or configure your mobile device at the global level to trust your self signed certificate. Instructions for the former is linked in the wiki, instructions for the latter is complicated, so it is beyond the scope of support. Also be aware that opening ports on your router carries is a greater security risk. Even more risky if your CERT is not valid. 1
