kzboray Posted May 2, 2022 Posted May 2, 2022 Does anyone have an recommendations for a pressure sensor? I'm going to buy one of these Floor Mat Sensors and see whats what. I suspect it's just a variable resistance to the alarm box. If it is then I'm thinking I can build a simple voltage divider and connect that to an analog input on a something like a MimoLite. But I'm wondering if someone has a better mouse trap? Thank you!
apostolakisl Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 Sorry, other than being a smartass, I have no suggestion.
tmorse305 Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 Here is a mat that is just a simple switch. https://www.alliedelec.com/product/rs-pro-by-allied/9184769/70977431/ You could connect the switch to a magnetic door switch of your choice (zwave, wifi, insteon) right across the reed switch.
kzboray Posted May 3, 2022 Author Posted May 3, 2022 @apostolakisl Actually made me laugh. I started to type out my replay, but the typewriter ribbon ran out and then the floppy I was going to save it on won't eject from my Apple Lisa. What a day. 1 1
kzboray Posted May 3, 2022 Author Posted May 3, 2022 @tmorse305 I don't think that will work. It's an on / off mat. Once I put flooring over it, it will be in an on or off state due to the weight of the floor covering. I need something with the ability to produce a variable current or resistance that can be hooked into a simple analog circuit. Or I think that's what would work best. Still hoping someone jumps in with the perfect solution. Thank you for the suggestion!

Maybe you could put something like this under the flooring. https://www.banggood.com/4pcs-DIY-50KG-Body-Load-Cell-Weight-Strain-Sensor-Resistance-With-HX711-AD-Module-p-1326815.html?utm_source=googleshopping&utm_medium=cpc_organic&gmcCountry=CA&utm_content=minha&utm_campaign=minha-ca-en-pc¤cy=CAD&cur_warehouse=CN&createTmp=1&utm_source=googleshopping&utm_medium=cpc_us&utm_content=nolan&utm_campaign=aceng-pmax-ca-roas-20220402-nolan&ad_id=&gclid=CjwKCAjwgr6TBhAGEiwA3aVuIUov8z7TYLlXPV52zzGLiT0ep514D7bCUlSajAlt6BQKuRaI_4B74RoCb1sQAvD_BwE
kzboray Posted May 3, 2022 Author Posted May 3, 2022 (edited) @palayman I looked at those, but they max out at 5g of weight. Something like that is exactly what i'm after, but with a much higher max weight. Update++++++ Opps, the ones you linked are different than what I had seen. Yes these might work! Thank you! One of the neighbors that just remodeled their basement, used one pattern in the 1/2 bath and another in the kitchenette. You wouldn't guess it's linoleum.... https://www.floorcity.com/collections/linoleum-flooring 1

I did some reading and it seems they now have some waterproof sealer that makes it maintenance free for 5 to 10 years. Otherwise, it would seem to be essentially the same product it was 100 years ago.
