More on Forget using a 2413s PLM with Polisy!

In a premature impulse to retreat from controversy I attempted to retract the original thread. I don't know if others are still able to access it. Nonetheless, upon reconsideration I have decided to share my communication with Steve Lee. This not an effort to impune. I do, however, feel compelled to clarify the situation. In follow-up to a telephone conversation where Steve told me he had consulted with Michel, the following E-mail exchange occurred. Germain is "Policy only uses the USB port."

Y'all should therefore update the Polisy WIKI to indicate this change. It certainly misled me in my choice to purchase my Polisy.

Steve,

Although I didn't think of it during our conversation, upon reflection I had always assumed the Polisy included a DB9 to facilitate connection of a serial PLM. Am I to gather that isn't possible? That sure seems like an abandonment of Insteon in the design stage, long prestaging Smarthome's abandonment.

This has already been discussed as well as proven that Polisy supports the 2413s via the DB9 port as well as the 2413u and 2448a7 USB stick. Not only has Michel stated that it works, there are many here (including myself with 2) using Polisy with the 2413s

I migrated my 2413s, when I moved from the ISY to the Polisy, works just fine. You do need that serial cable that came with the PLM, if you kept it, you are good. Believe you can replace it.

Quite happy with the Polisy, it turned out to be the perfect time for me to make the jump.

@Tim McDermott

The UDI Wiki for the Polisy shows the following:

INSTEON Support

  1. Connect the PLM to your Polisy

Polisy supports the following PLMs: 2412S and 2413S through the DB9 connector on the back. 2413U and 2448A7 through the USB port on the back. If you have a 2413S (serial),

My 2413S works just fine on Polisy using the RJ45 to DB9 cable as shipped from Smarthome and included with the 2413S  PLM.  You can not use a standard ethernet cable, none of the RJ45 jacks on Polisy are serial AFAIK.  If you no longer have that cable as included with the original purchase, you can pick them up online for about $10.  I assume the pinout is standard.  If not, I'm sure you can get the pinout from Michel and make your own.

I now realize a serial PLM will work via Polisy's DB9. The point I am trying to make is that in my previous thread folks doubted my original assertions of how I came to think they wouldn't. It is my hope that this thread will clarify that. I appreciate this may not be important to many, but I value my credibility.

That was my only objective.

To be honest with you, i think most (if not all) of us had forgotten about it until you bought it back up.

We have pretty short memories. You're good

I wanted to give Steve sufficient time to own this. Although I didn't get the response I hoped for, I do feel I gave ample opportunity. I appreciate everyone's indulgence. I now consider the matter closed.
