Two ToggleLinc Dimmers in same box

I have two togglelinc dimmers in the same 3-gang box. Both are hooked to the same hot and neutral and control 2 different sets of lights. One works perfectly in scenes (linked to a KPL) and when controlled directly from the ISY (was 2.7.0, now 2.7.7). The other only reacts to the KPL button press to toggle the scene and direct device control from the ISY. It does not respond to the scene control from the ISY. If I trigger the scene from the admin console, the ISY says the togglelinc is on, but it isn't. I have tried 3 different togglelinc dimmers with the same results. All happened to be V 35 while the one in the same box that works fine is V 38. However, I do have a V 35 in a different room/scene but with a different button on the same KPL as a controller that works just fine. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Is V 35 a known problem? The setup does pretty much what I need, but I would like to be able to control the scene from iLinc as well. So, the ISY needs to be able to directly control both ToggleLincs in the scene.

After working on this for several hours, I've found something interesting. If I simply add the togglelinc that doesn't work properly as a responder in another scene (just something random - doesn't matter which one, the settings, etc.), it will now respond properly to the ISY scene control for the original scene about 80% of the time. I'm able to compensate for the other 20% by writing two programs that turn the new "compensation" scene on and off in conjunction with the status of the KPL button that controls the original scene. Not ideal, but it seems to work reliably. Note that I did add a 1 second delay in the program so that the insteon signals are not fighting each other for control of the same togglelinc.

I swear that half of the programs I have written over the years exist solely to compensate for X10 and Insteon communication issues. Oh well, as long as it has the appearance of functioning properly.

Hi cmaterick,

Would you be kind enough to try Tools | Diagnostics | Scene Test on the scene for which you have comm. errors?

And, are the ToggleLincs or SwitchLincs? There was a problem with SWL 35s with the same exact symptoms as you are describing.

With kind regards,

Michel

I ran the diagnostic 4 times with about 20 seconds between. It failed twice (on both togglelincs oddly enough) and succeeded twice. Both times it failed, I noticed a line in the log prior to the two light switch failure lines that said:

Mon 01/18/2010 10:31:48 PM : [iNST-SRX ] 02 50 10.06.45 0D.FF.36 61 13 22 LTOFFRR(22): Process Message: failed

That line didn't say failed either time the scene test worked.

They are definitely togglelincs. I noticed one more interesting thing. As previously mentioned, the scene works 80% of the time or so with the togglelinc that wasn't working dropped into an arbitrary other scene by itself (even without the compensating programs). If I make sure to wait at least 20-30 seconds between attempting to turn the scene on/off, it works probably 95% of the time. I have tried restoring the KPL and the togglelincs. I've also done a factory reset on them and re-linked and recreated the scenes with the same outcome.

Hi cmaterick,

Would you be kind enough to do the following:

1. Remove your TLs from the scene

2. Unplug your TLs (take the set button out)

3. Retry the scene test

If scene test is 100% successful in 10 tries, then I am almost certain the problem is the TL (much like the SWL).

With kind regards,

Michel
