GFuller01 Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 We moved to a new home, I found a "new" 994i with a bunch of Insteon stuff. I hooked it up and though it was assigned an IP address, it does NOT show in my router Network Map, nor does the router allow me to assign the MAC address a static IP. I used the free scan link listed above, plus my FING box shows it there as well. I cannot telnet to it, and the admin.jnlp errors with "Unable to launch the application". In https://my.isy.io/index.htm I added the UUIS but selecting an item from "select tool" yields "ISY not online". I have downloaded a later firmware but do not know how to upgrade using the USB connecton.
Geddy Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 @GFuller01 moved your post to a new topic since you seem to have multiple issues and not really related to prior post you tagged on to. It's possible the ISY was setup for Static IP on the device and when you connect it to the current router the DHCP table is different. Therefore the ISY is unable to connect to the router. Have you ever used this ISY? Even though you say it's "NEW". Is it "new to you", or was it still in the box new and never been powered on? 14 minutes ago, GFuller01 said: plus my FING box shows it there as well. What does this mean? You mentioned scan link (from this post), but does it show up on your network? Make sure you've connected all the cables to the correct ports: Be sure you plug the PLM in first and allow it to power on (about 15-30 seconds) then power on your ISY. Please refer to the ISY Wiki for additional setup and troubleshooting steps: https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=Main_Page
Techman Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 Make sure the ethernet cable is plugged into "Network" on the back of the ISY.The most likely error is due to ISY having a static IP address and the router blocking DNS from IPs not generated by DHCP server. If you have configured ISY with a static IP address, please consider Reverting to DHCP, Or Use 8.8.4.4 for the DNS server In case of using DHCP, you may consider using DHCP Reservation in the router such that ISY is always given the same IP address. If you have port forwarding rules in your router to ISY, please make sure that only TCP is forwarded (NOT UDP or both). If you are using DDWRT, PFSense, or any other home grown routers, then please note that DNSMasq will not work. --------------------------------------------------------- Clear your Java cache, including installed applications, then download the ISY Launcher https://isy.universal-devices.com/start.jnlp
MrBill Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 @GFuller01 An Insteon 2413S PLM plugs into Port A, using an "Ethernet cable" (but it's not really Ethernet protocol being used from PLM to Port A). The PLM must be fully powered up first. Next make sure the ISY is connected Network jack to your Router. Ethernet connection is required here. After the PLM is powered up for about 30 seconds and has a solid green light, then plug in the ISY. After it's had time to boot up, what light are on on the front of the ISY? 52 minutes ago, GFuller01 said: the USB connecton. an ISY994 does not have USB. 1

Never used, was still in the box, never powered on What does this mean? FING is a network "box" that monitors connections, it shows all of the connected devices, of which the ISY 994i is there with its MAC address, so I added that to my portal. You mentioned scan link (from this post), but does it show up on your network? The post from which this was extracted, someone mentioned this san tool, I dled it, it too shows the ISY on the network. Please refer to the ISY Wiki for additional setup and troubleshooting steps: https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=Main_Page It is connected to a PLM, the 2313S. Ahhh!, no green light on the PLM, I have to go see if there is another one in the box of stuff Have you ever used this ISY? Even though you say it's "NEW". Is it "new to you", or was it still in the box new and never been powered on? Never used, it is really brand new, just out of a box, never powered on before.
GFuller01 Posted July 14, 2022 Author Posted July 14, 2022 I found another one, it works. I am about to go through everything again. I also found a 2412N, a 2413U, and two 2413UH. Can any of those also be used? I will let you know what happens in a short while. Thanks!!!

I cannot assign the address in the router. I was able to assign one to a printer, so I know that works. I will have to look for that - BTW, I am an electrician so not tech savvy, sorry If you are using DDWRT, PFSense, or any other home grown routers, then please note that DNSMasq will not work. --------------------------------------------------------- Clear your Java cache, including installed applications, then download the ISY Launcher https://isy.universal-devices.com/start.jnlp I did the last two things
Techman Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 You mentioned you were using admin.jnlp. Are you sure you're using the ISY Launcher and not what you quoted? "the admin.jnlp errors with "Unable to launch the application".
GFuller01 Posted July 14, 2022 Author Posted July 14, 2022 Because the directions say to connect using a micro USB cable, that is why I said via USB. That is now connected to the monitor port. With the new 2313S, I got assigned a new address. Old ended 92, not it is 93 and I can telnet to it. Nothing else seems to work, like the admin console. 2022-07-14_10-55-58.mp4
Techman Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 (edited) If you're using the ISY Finder then this is the window that should open. Clicking on the ISY line should open the admin console for the ISY after a short delay. The ISY needs to connect directly to your Router, or hub if you're using one with an ethernet cable. I believe I tried it both ways. sheesh...evidently not, I just got this when I did the start.jnlp that is supposed to put the icon on my desktop.
GFuller01 Posted July 14, 2022 Author Posted July 14, 2022 well....i guess i should have redacted the ID....
Techman Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 (edited) The 4.0.5 firmware is outdated and should be upgraded once you've got things stabilized Are you now able to access the ISY? Edited July 14, 2022 by Techman
Techman Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 (edited) Here's the upgrade instructions. Click on the link below and follow them exactly. Ignore the beta reference. This is a stable build After the upgrade, you'll need to clear your java cache, including installed applications and download the ISY Launcher again Edited July 14, 2022 by Techman 1
