ALewis Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 When I add Z wave devices to a scene it does not ask if they should be responders or controllers. As such, plugs work fine but switches do not control anything. The box to chose if it is a responder or controller when adding to a scene appears and then quickly disappears and you can see that it automatically adds it to the scene as a responder. The devices are Z wave plus. I am ISY 4.9 and Z wave 4.55 for versions. Any ideas?
lilyoyo1 Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 Zwave devices as controllers are complicated as not all devices can be added as a controller. Unfortunately this is mfg. dependant and different models (even from the same mfg.) can have different capabilities. Either way, what you're trying to do is not possible on 4.9. You'll need to upgrade your zwave board to at least the 500 series and upgrade your isy to 5.3.4 to even have the chance for it to be possible with your particular devices. 1
ALewis Posted August 29, 2022 Author Posted August 29, 2022 I expected this was the case. Thanks. Does anyone know when the 500 series board will be available? I see it is sold out. I assume a lot of others are in the same boat - need to add devices to an old insteon system and cant get a UD controller to do that based on whats available in stock?

Personally, I'd get polisy or wait for the eisy to be released. Both will allow for greater zwave control and functionality long term. I'm regards to availability, you're better off contacting UDI directly. While they are still making 994zw devices, I highly doubt they're placing sizeable orders since the 994 is no longer their focus with their new controllers out/or coming out Edited August 29, 2022 by lilyoyo1 1
ALewis Posted August 29, 2022 Author Posted August 29, 2022 Any sense when Polisy will be available (UD store says sold out) or when Eisy will be released and available?

upstatemike Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 (edited) I didn't mean Matter will fix Z-Wave (I am convinced now that it is unfixable). I am just saying Matter will not have the same problems that Z-Wave has. Matter switches and keypad buttons will all work as controllers regardless of manufacturer. You will be able to backup a controller from one manufacturer and restore it to a controller from another manufacturer. Direct association will work as expected between all devices and all buttons on keypad devices regardless of what mix of manufacturers you are using. There will be no popcorn effect when controlling groups of devices. Latency will be imperceptible under all conditions. Etc. etc. Edited August 29, 2022 by upstatemike Typo

I'm looking forward to seeing what it can do though I'm reserving my excitement until then. I'm hoping Lutron supports it with Ra3
