SteveT
Has anyone experienced saving programs on 5.5.4 is slow? Its between 3-5 seconds per program for me - something new, it has been really quick in the past. Running on Polisy w/Insteon + ZMatter. Steve Link to comment
vbPhil
About the same for me. Another action that takes a while is opening the Programs tab for the first time after launching the AC, about 30 seconds. IoX backups take forever as well. The 994i was way quicker. I'm on Polisy 5.5.4 with ZMatter board. 1 Link to comment
MrBill
do you have the Java memory parameter specified? https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=Main_Page#Admin_Console_is_very_slow_or_hangs I've actually recently discovered from a stackoverflow thread that using both -Xms1024m -Xmx1024m works best for me. My laptop has alot of memory so 1024m doesn't phase it, if yours has less you might try -Xms512m -Xmx512m 2 1 Link to comment
SteveT
@MrBill - yes, java is configured w/the config above. I have the problem on Windows and on my Mac as well. @vbphil - agreed - ISY994 is faster! Everything else in the console is pretty decent, I don't notice any delays except when saving or deleting programs. I did a few tests, and it definitely seems slower if a ZWave device is in the program! 😮 Edited January 22, 2023 by SteveT Link to comment

At over 900 programs I find the 994i excruciatingly slow to load (and back up). I was really counting on Polisy speeding things up. Am just waiting for stable zwave migration as I have way too many to start over from scratch. Is it slow on eisy too? Link to comment
SteveT
To clarify @johnnyt- this is when saving . Loading the console up is not bad for me- I am sure they will ID and fix. Link to comment
Techman
F.Y.I. Every time Java does an update it deletes the memory parameter, which then needs to be reentered. 1 1 Link to comment

I've not experienced any slowness, but I don't have a vast system of programs. Just to test I just updated 3 of my programs and hit save. It took less than 2 seconds to save. I have < 80 programs (give or take). 22 hours ago, vbphil said: Another action that takes a while is opening the Programs tab for the first time after launching the AC, about 30 seconds. Again, not experienced this here. Even loading "Local" version of admin console. I can open admin console, allow it to complete then click program tab and be ready to work in < 15 seconds. 22 hours ago, vbphil said: IoX backups take forever as well. My backup took about 1 minute. My backup size is just about 100kb. All my times were using the local option to open admin console on a wireless laptop on the other side of the house from the eisy that is hard wired to my network. I'm no longer running the ISY994 so cannot compare to current times for same handling. I have the Java parameters set as @MrBill stated (max & min). If you're seeing continued delays you should open a support ticket so that UDI knows this is specifically happening. There have been so many forum messages over the last month+ that I'm sure it's difficult to keep up with all the "little" things causing users potential issues. https://www.universal-devices.com/my-tickets 1 Link to comment

One might argue that a minute is rather long for that amount of data. My backup was almost 7 minutes (with same Java parameters) on Polisy and almost 400KB in size. (Local AC with no wifi in in the picture) Maybe there is (Zip?) compression going on that takes time or just a low priority in retrieving files from Polisy so that it is not bogged down by the more important tasks it needs to do. Having said that, I don't normally need to make backups often, so it is bearable. But I agree it seems slower than I would like! Link to comment
Geddy
1 hour ago, gzahar said: One might argue that a minute is rather long for that amount of data. True, but I never timed it on the ISY994. I would say it was longer on the older device. I just remember it taking a while, but not something I'd get up and walk away to wait on. Like you I don't go altering the system all that much so don't tend to run backups normally. Saving them in the cloud and on regular system backups add to that peace of mind that I'll have a recent backup if/when needed. 1 hour ago, gzahar said: My backup was almost 7 minutes (with same Java parameters) on Polisy and almost 400KB in size. Strange that a backup 4x the size took that much longer. Are you running many node servers? I only have 2 installed/running at the moment. I wonder if they're logging something causing bogging things down. I know Michel has said the system should be capable to handle many processes at once. Will be interesting to see if anything is done/mentioned about it in updates. Link to comment
larryllix
My ISY994 took about 3-4 minutes to backup and going to polisy it was about half that. Now I cannot compare to that as I started over, with a much smaller system. Link to comment
MrBill
I've never timed my 994 backup because I usually start it and do something else. I just did tho, backup size is 259kb in 4 minutes. Watching the progress bar different elements seem to be faster/slow than other types. SO it apprears to be not just about size but what is being packed up: does the new backup still only backup IoX or is it also including polyglot? Link to comment

Geddy
7 hours ago, MrBill said: does the new backup still only backup IoX or is it also including polyglot? Just IoX portion. The Polyglot backups are handled on the web side. But I think it does appear to backup nodes that are being fed to IoX. I figure if something is updating the part that's being backed up could be causing some delays (congestion). At least in hypothetical theory. Right? Link to comment
