Just need to restart EVERYTHING - Polisy and PLM

So i moved, in my old house i had an ISY-994 and it was great. I bought a polisy about 6 months ago, but never got around to upgrading, then when i determined i was moving, i figured i'd start fresh in new house.

I removed all my switches/devices from my old house and brought them with me for install in my new house.

Now i want to start completely from scratch with the Policy and my PLM.

EVERYTHING i read in all the documentation talks about restoring the PLM when using on a new system.... i do not want to restore anything. I would love to wipe the polisy and the PLM to factory defaults. The Polisy i reset through Telnet and remove/install pkg isy, but the PLM is my concern.

I have a 2413S, which i bought the serial connection kit. I tried connecting to the DB9 jack directly, or through the USB port with that part of the serial connection kit. I did the factory reset on the PLM, Hold down the button, unplug, unplug the polisy, unplug the PLM from the polisy, plug back in the PLM while holding down the button, wait till the beep stops and let go, which should be a factory reset. Then i'll reconnect to the polisy, and plug the polisy back in. Get into Admin console, check the Insteon support box, save, reboot, restart admin console and check and PLM comes up not connected. Ive tried to restore, but that just gives me an endless busy loop, until i reset everything again and try again. I've tried delete PLM, then restore, still nothing. I've tried multiple cables including the one i used to connect to my old ISY-994, etc.

One other note, the polisy is giving me errors with selecting my time zone and the sunrise/sunset is off. If i try to change my location, i'll get an error request failed, or sometimes i'll get a "could not open config file to read [blahblahblah/insteng.opt]" error box. Relevant? i'm not sure.

All versions of ISY and Polygot are the latest, BIOS matches ISY version or IOX, sorry still call it ISY, 5.5.7. Ive been scouring the threads, and reading every wiki entry for about a week to try to work this out. I'm on to my last step of asking for help here. Any assistance would be great! I wanted to use the Polisy and not go back to my ISY-994i, but i'm almost at the point where i'll have to if i cant get this Polisy ISY to work.

@kegacide
I think you need to isolate between the PLM and the various cables/adapters you have tried.
Also, since Polisy will also eventually reach a sunset, you might consider migrating to the eISY
1. Perhaps connect the PLM to your ISY994i to confirm it's not the PLM.
2. If the PLM checks good, you might try to build your own DB9 or USB adapter to minimize the number of interconnects and failure points.

I can't offer any help, but it's stories like this that make me hesitant to abandon my isy for a  polisy or whatever it's called these days.

Honestly i thought about that, but maybe my PLM became defective and i can't get a new one anyway? But i think in the end i'll order the eisy and give it a go.

Yeah, i might have to try to ol' 994i again, though i need to factory reset that because it's got old house info.

I think i'll go with the eisy, if i am starting from scratch anyway and hope i have better luck with that.

@kegacide you still need a PLM with the eisy for your insteon right?

It's possible your DB9 jack wasn't wired correctly. Did you follow the pinout picture from the UD site or other comments in the forums about how to handle the wiring of the Serial signals?

The only way to connect the PLM to the Polisy is through DB9 (serial) or USB. There's no RJ45 jack on the Polisy to accept the serial cable that most used to connect the Serial PLM to the ISY994. All the RJ45 ports on the Polisy are Network ports and could cause damage to the PLM if tested. So, be extra careful! Hopefully you haven't damaged a working PLM! There are repair services available (by the new Insteon and by a forum user on ebay).

There was a RJ45 to DB9 cable in the original packaging for serial PLM. Though most might have thrown it away when it wasn't needed to connect to the ISY994. If you still have the original box it's tucked away in the inner packaging.

Yes, they will need a PLM with the eisy to communicate with Insteon.

If you are able to test the PLM via computer there are methods to do that. I've never attempted them, but have seen @Brian H mention them.

Try to get the PLM issue sorted out first. Then can address the time zone issue. That was a known bug in early IoX versions, but you said you are on 5.5.7 so shouldn't have that issue. One thing at a time though. Get a usable system. Then can worry about the time. :)

Thanks Geddy. I used the pinout as listed on the serial PLM kit link (https://www.universal-devices.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Serial-to-RJ45-Connection-scaled-e1674170254984.jpg). Researching some numbers, this looks like DB9 ports 5, 3 and 2, which matches what you said. Other side seems to correlate as well. So the pinout seems ok.

When i meant the cable i connected to my 994i, i meant the ethernet cable which is what i have from my 2416S to the DB9 from RB45 jack. I do'nt know if that cable matters, whether CAT5, CAT5e, CAT6 but i used what came with the PLM kit so hopefully that is right.

I will research how i can test the PLM and see if it got damaged in move or during initial resets somehow?

Thanks for your help though.

So i took your advice, found the pertinent Brian H post to test the PLM, and it appears my cable and PLM are working fine, sending and recieving communication as it should. My link tables are empty as it should be as ive factory reset and there does not appear to be any issue on the PLM side of things.

I'll play around with a few more things and see whats up, but having a working PLM is at least a good thing.

I actually just ordered the eisy and i'll just hope i have better luck there than the polisy.
