So, I presume the problem is related to no longer having the multiple functional range extenders bridging the two phases. Is Insteon no longer offering range extenders? Any options? Don't know the answer to current offering from Insteon. Loosing two accesspoints is definitely telling. I still don't understand why your 2477D's aren't communicating across the phases. Is it possible that you had an electrical event that took out multiple devices? If you have "damaged" insteon devices hanging on the powerline they might not properly repeat the signal (rf or powerline) and could instead appear to be signal absorbers.
Techman Posted August 12, 2023 Posted August 12, 2023 @MarcusD For the 4 tap test you can use the plugin lamplinc dimmer and the on/off modules, both which also function as access points. The plugin modules have their antenna's positioned in such a way that provides better RF coverage over a switch or device that's embedded inside a wall. Some of the older access points were prone to failure, and actually created noise on the powerline when they failed. Devices that have motors, i.e. garage door openers, fans, etc. could possibly create noise on the powerline. Most importantly, you want to make sure that your PLM is being seen on both legs of your powerline.
Brian H Posted August 13, 2023 Posted August 13, 2023 (edited) The V2.6 2434 Access Points are built using the same main board as our 2413S PLM and suffer the same bad capacitor problems we see in the 2413S. I had a pair go bad (No LED or 4 Tap Tests) and rebuilding them with the same information as the 2413S. Made both of them functional again. Not sure if the 2992-222 Range Extenders where in the thread but they also will do a 4 Tap Test and couple signals. By RF and power lines. The 2447D2 Lamplinc is what the Range Extender is built with. Just the dimming circuit removed and it has the same FCC database number. Edited August 13, 2023 by Brian H Add something
MarcusD Posted August 15, 2023 Author Posted August 15, 2023 I see the Insteon store sells the 2457D2. I assume it also would serve as a range extender (Brian referenced the 2447D2) IndyMIke--It's certainly possible there was some electrical event/surge/lightening. But hard to know if that's the root of the problem. Given that 2 range extenders are out, may I"ll just try added 2 new lamplincs. I have to admit, I am losing steam here. I did get a lot of satisfaction programming this over the years, but the current state of things is definitely dampening my enthusiasm.... I'll do some more testing of the plm and phases, see if I can identify if there's one phase is giving more trouble than the other-- will be about a week before I'll have some time to dig into that... Thanks again everyone for helping....
Techman Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 Both the 2457D2 and the 2635-222, both in stock at Insteon.com, will also work as range extenders. 2
Brian H Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 (edited) My bad. It was a typo. 2457D2 is the one I tried to post about. That the Range Extender is built on. Edited August 16, 2023 by Brian H
