Linking the PLM to the ISY

I am a newbie and have successfully installed the ISY and have it controlling all of my insteon switches. My question is this: was I supposed to press the set button on the PLM during the add insteon sequence or does the isy just know its there because it is connected to it. The PLM does not show up in "My Lighting" tree.

That brings up another question:

 

What is stored in the 32KB memory on the PLM? I would assume that there has to be a device database in order for the PLM to report events to the ISY (the Insteon security). Is this just a link database similar to a SwitchLinc, etc. or is it something different? Are all the scenes defined in the ISY stored in the PLM's memory, and is the PLM a controller in every scene on your Insteon network?
