Hello Dwayne,

A RemoteLinc button cannot be controlled. However your program can control the same scene that is controlled by the RemoteLinc.

Rand,

Thanks for your quick reply...

i was hoping that there was a way to set the button to off. Here's what i'm trying to do....

I am an optometrist and i'm trying up scenes based on my eye examination procedures.

I need 4 basic scenes

1) all lights on

2) all lights off

3) Exam chart light only on.

3) Reading Lamp only on.

i need to be able to go from one scene to any another other scene randomly without having to turn each scene off before switching to the another scene.

this is what i need to happen

If "button 5" is on

then turn on scene 5

then turn button 5 off

else take no action

(scene 5 turns off every light but the Exam chart.)

This works fine but since i have turned button 5 "on" i must turn it off before i turn it on again. this causes a problem if i go from this scene to another scene and need to go back to scene 5. (without turning it off) otherwise im punching twice as many buttons - which defeats the purpose of using scenes.

That's why i wanted to set button 5 to off after it had turned on scene 5- then it would be ready to set scene 5 again when needed.

Is there a better way to do what i need using the RemoteLinc?

Thanks so much for your time

Dwayne,

One scene would be All Lights. This scene could be linked to one RL button ON would turn all lights on, OFF would turn them off.

For chart light only or reading lamp only, you could do with programs or scenes. For a chart light only scene, for example, set the chart light to 100% and the other lights to 0% in the scene. Link the scene to an RL button. Turning the button ON turns the chart light on and the other lights off (0%). Turning the button OFF turns all lights off.

To do this with a program, use the condition "Control 'RL button 5' is switched on" instead of "Status 'RL button 5' is on." This way, the program will run everytime you press ON on button 5, regardless of the status of the button.

I don't believe this is true. Remote linc buttons have no status, in my mind. They simply send on and off commands, depending on which side you press. If you press button 5 on, go to another scene, then press button 5 again, then scene 5 will come back on.

Hi Dwayne,

There is a way that I think would be better for you.

Place all the lights in a Scene.

Add all the RemoteLinc buttons you need, as controllers, to that scene.

While viewing the Scene select a RL button - it should be red as a controller. Use the sliders to set each device On or Off as you desire for that scene.

Select another RL button in the scene and change the device levels you desire to take effect when that button is pressed On.

Do this for each button on the RL.

So button 3 (for example) could turn off all the lights except the Exam Light.

Then you can select scenes using the On buttons.

If you are using dimmers note that you can select Ramp Rates and On Levels for each device for any controller for that scene.

I don't believe this is true. Remote linc buttons have no status,

I wish this were true - however, when i press the 'on' side of the button and check the status in the UD Admin Console, it shows as 'on' until i press "off" then it shows "off"

Thanks for your input

My RemoteLincs show no status as a power failure caused a restart and all of then show no status.

I just pushed a RemoteLinc button. ISY shows the LAST command the button sent, but the button is not physically on or off. So what you are seeing was the Status of the button and not it being physically on or off.

As an RF device it goes into a power save mode and you can't access it unless woken up. That is why when the ISY programs a button you have to use the Bright Dim buttons to wake it up.

You are correct. This is, I believe, a presumed status on the part of ISY. I don't believe the actual device has a status and understand it has no bearing on the function of the remotelinc. Neither will it have any affect on controlled devices (after intial scene activation), unless you use this condition as part of a program.

I continue to maintain that turning your remotelinc off to be an unecessary step.

The status of the button is only important if you use Status type conditions to trigger your programs. As stated above, use Command type conditions instead and the status won't matter. Same deal for motion sensors that are programmed to only send ON commands.

DING DING DING DING DING DING!! :D

That fixed the problem!!!!

Everything works just like i need it to when i use "Control" instead of "Status"

Thanks SOOOOOO much!!

You guys are awesome

So you already have programs that do things. I was a little confused. I thought you used scenes.

I suggest re-reading the post from Sub-routine. You might find his approach even better than using controls and programs. Using scenes would give you a perceptibly faster response to button presses. There is a little delay with using programs. I assume that this is due to the extra communication associated with programs and in the time it takes to execute the program, itself.

One other question....

i need to link an I/O linc to a button so that it momentarly closes a circuit and then re-opens the circuit to send a signal to a piece of equipment.

I know i could write a porgram to do this but, I have heard about linking the I/O Linc in "momentaty mode"

What is the best way to do this?

Thanks

D
