Connecting EISY to Wifi Network without password

Recommended Posts

My space is such that for the ease of everything I don't need a wifi password to access our network.  The likelihood of someone stealing our wifi is near zero.  Im in the process of transitioning from an ISY to EISY and I do have a PLM in the mix.

Can someone explain to me the process of connecting to wifi network on a EISY through the SSH. I have a monitor and keyboard hooked up to the EISY.  I tried the following command provided by support but I am getting error message network={ssid=Elan Guest Wi-Fi key_mgmt=NONE}

Please keep in mind I am a newb at this so that more basic the better!!

If you're trying to connect to your guest network rather than your primary network that could be your problem. Both your computer and your eisy should be on your primary network.

Generally speaking, it not a good idea to have a network that isn't password protected.

That is my primary network.  Im in a very secluded area and Its just easier to leave it open when friends come over etc.

In your previous post your SSID is showing "Elan Guest Wi-Fi", so I thought you were on the router's guest network. A guest network only allows access to the internet, and not to any devices connected to the router.

Is your eisy currently connected to the router via ethernet? If so are you able to access via the IoX Launcher?

Why are you trying to connect via SSH?

If you are new at this, you would be much better off using UD Mobile. It will walk you through everything you need to do. You can find instructions for using UD Mobile in the UD wiki pages.

I agree with @DennisC, if you’re “a newb” then SSH would be my last attempt at doing this.

is your eisy able to be close enough to be wired into your router rather than using WiFi? I would usually suggest a wired connection if at all possible (one less “unknown” to deal with if/when you have issues).

UD Mobile is able to handle the WiFi (or wired) connection, but I’m not 100% it would connect without a WiFi password since 99.9% of networks should have passwords.

If you have attempted to get it to connect with UD Mobile and it doesn’t work then you might consider opening a support ticket to see if there is a way to “force” it to connect to an unsecured WiFi network.
