Help linking Insteon devices to PLM

Recommended Posts

Thanks for letting my try the new Beta.

So far it is working just right for me,

including creating "Scenes" and setting up programs

that are triggered by time of day.

I am having only one major problem, though.

I have been pulling my hair out since I installed the unit.

I can not get any of my Insteon devices to link as controllers

to the to the PLM. (including my EZIO)

All of my devices will resopnd to the ISY,

but the ISY will not respond to my devices.

I have been reading the foums, and tried everything.

I have even changed the PLM and rediscoverd devices.

I have even deleted everything, and started over, twice.

At one time it did link, but to controllers of scenes only,

but not responders.

So, because of tis problem I can not use an Insteon SwitchLink,

RelayLink, or KeypadLink to trigger programs.

The only time I get the status updated in the ISY, is when

I do a "Query" or control the device from the GUI.

The ISY responds to X-10 devices just fine though.

I have gone in there with with another program and looked around,

to see what I could find and it was empty! So I did something

that I figured that would not work, I actually wrote all of my devices

as contoller links one saved them to the PLM.

To my supprise it did knida, sorta work.

I would have the press the button or paddle many times

before the ISY would see it.

Any Ideas :?:

um - i can't help with this - just have a question - how do you know what type of link is established between a dimmer (or relay or keypad) and the plm?

when i operate a device, the status change must be reported to the isy because the gui displays the changed status

Hello DEGoodrich,

As I mentioned in response to your email, we do have a conceptual gap with what you are trying to accomplish. Please do let me know when I can call you to resolve these issues.

With kind regards,

Michel

I have even changed the PLM

If you swap your PLM, be sure to reboot your ISY and do a "restore modem (plm)" to recreate links on your new PLM.

When you add a device to the ISY, it creates a link on the PLM so it will be notified of any switch presses (which will allow you to create your triggers). If the PLM is replaced, the new one won't have any of those links (until you run a "restore modem (plm".

I don't know what happened. I deleted all devices and updated to 2.5 RC1. Then added all devices back again. Now everything works, except my EZIO8SA. It appears in my network. I can control the outputs fine, but the inputs will not update on a change except after a "query". I used their utility to add the links. Then it works fine the first time the input is changed, but then the links dissapear, and it quits working again.

DEGoodrich,

I am glad that you got things to work again! Would you be kind enough to try the following:

1. Remove your EZIO8SA completely

2. Do a factory reset on your EZIO8SA

3. On Admin Console, issue Link Management->Start Linking

4. On your EZIO, click and hold the set button for 4 seconds till its LED flashes and then release

5. Immediately follow step 4 (after you've released the set button on your EZIO) with another click/hold of the set button on your EZIO for another 4 seconds and till the LED goes out/off

6. Wait for your EZIO's LED to come back on (this will take around 30 seconds)

7. Click on the Cancel button on ISY's Admin Console (Linking in Progress Dialog)

Let me know of the outcome please.

With kind regards,

Michel

I figured out the poroblem.

I got another bad EZIO8SA!

This is my second one!

There are bad solder connections on the PCB.

If I plug in an external PS, and Hold the cable just right it will work.

Now I have two to send back!

I am goin to look at alternative ways to do with out this thing.

The ISY already does most of what I need.

DEGoodrich,

I am so very sorry to hear it.

If you're planning to use ELK as your security system, you can use its inputs (16) to do as precisely what you are trying to do with EZIOSA/ISY.

With kind regards,

Michel

Actually I have a DSC PC1864 fully loaded (3 cabinets)!

I just ordered the "Escort Module" this will give me the X-10 interface.

Also it will add intercom, voice anouncements, Telephone control and HVAC.

I would like to be able to use Mcontrol.

It supports insteon and DSC. I hope they will add ISY suooprt.

But I think it will work with out Media Center ISY support.

But they do not yet suppoet Vista 64.

Maybe I can help with the DSC thing.

I have already installed the Interface module for that purpose.

Thank for the help I will, call tomarrow to return the EZIO'a

DEGoodrich,

Unfortunately, we do not integrate with DSC. So, I think the X10 module will come handy: you can use DSC -> X10 -> ISY -> X10 -> DSC ( with a lot of delay!!!).

There have been other customers who wanted ISY->MControl Integration. We are completely open to this integration.

With kind regards,

Michel
