I did not see a forum specifically about the HUB2 so please forgive if this is not the correct one.  I reciently got a HUB2 (because the Amazon Alxea up was updated and no longer supported the isy994). plugged it in set it up all without a subscription. Is this a grace period or is a subscription not required for local control?

Well the Hub 2 is an Insteon product, not UDI. So you won't learn much about it here. Not sure how much it can really do without a subscription, but if the bankruptcy of Insteon in 2022 is an indication, the hubs basically became useless.

What exactly do you mean by "Alexa was updated" and no longer supported the isy994?

To @Guy Lavoie's point, Amazon echo is supported through the UDI portal, not the 994 specifically. Even though the 994 is at end of life, Amazon echo through the portal should work

@FarmerGeek I've used Hub2 with Home Assistant for years, almost a decade and it's rock solid.

I believe a subscription is only required if you use the Insteon phone app with the Hub.
