Insteon i3 switch support?

I read a while back that new insteon didn't provide codes and wasn't supported but I thought that was fixed?

Today my new @domotinc-customs 4 button with custom engraving arrived.  Linking worked just fine, I tried to rename and got a communications error, unable to find linking name table.  So I deleted and started over.  Same thing, it links fine and then I get can't communicate.  I put it in place of a 2476 dimmer.  The dimmer was deleted before I cut power to the circuit and swapped the switches.

Fair warning to anyone looking at i3, the switch is much deeper than the 2476 is, a lot harder to cram in the old work box.

Well Skip that, I restarted iOX and did a factory reset on the switch and all is well.

I've only used the i3 paddle and outlets; they are both smaller switch packages than previous insteon switches and I've had an easier time installing

As @paulbates indicated I had heard that the i3 were smaller switches making it easier to install in multi-gang locations. The switch you're talking about might be different than the single paddle/outlet design.

Glad it seems you were able to get the device renamed in IoX with a restart. But that's still tricky. You might want to open a ticket with UD to get that clarified for if it's a "known" (or unknown) bug with the i3 line. I recall @Michel Kohanim commenting that the "new" Insteon was willing to work with UD and they were working with them to support the i3 line better and fully. Don't recall other issues mentioned in the past so might be a new bug or perhaps something with that device family.

The 2476S single band switches where smaller than the dual band 2477S. As the 2477S had a larger size but also had a higher maximum current they could handle. Along with a heavier line and load wire.

Never saw or used an I3 module so I can not say its size.

I have 8 of those 4 button i3 devices now and have been slowly swapping out my old 4 button keypads because my wife like the simplicity of the new devices.

One rule - YOU MUST FACTORY RESET THE NEW DEVICES BEFORE USING - there, I said it. Yeah, got burned multiple times and the biggest issue is that the load is almost always assigned to the bottom button coming from the factory instead of the top button.

The ground wire is in a better place on the i3 devices, so at least that part of the replacement was nice.

I really wish the i3 keypads had back lit buttons instead of just the locator led, but I can live with it.

The 4 button i3 keypad is supposed to have the ability to assign the attached load to any of the four buttons.   Does IoX 5.9.1 have the ability to configure this?  Or is this something that can only be done with an Insteon Hub?

@Geddy, @paulbates The four button was at least 3mm deeper than the 2476D it replaced.  Shoving it into one of the last 1970 original boxes left in my house was a challenge.

@mfryd I don't see anyway to do it in in IOX, only the  1 address appears with all of the options as a load controller, but that isn't to say if you didn't use the hub to move the load it would not move on IoX.
