someguy Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Each time I've tried this, I factory reset the unit. When I get to step 6 where it says to go back and repeat steps 1-5, then I double-tap the set button, but each time I tap it, it sends out the IR code that I taught it the first time around. Then when I click "OK" in ISY, the nodes never show up. One of my thoughts/concerns is: if this is a new 2411T that is factory reset, then how the heck does it know "who" my PLM is. Shouldn't I add the 2411T to the ISY before I add a button? If so, then this isn't anywhere in the descriptions that I have read about in other threads or in the wiki. also, in the wiki there appear to be a mistake: Learning and Testing an IR Code1.Double-tap the Set button on IRLinc IRLinc will double-beep and its LED will begin blinking 2.Point your IR remote control at the bottom of IRLinc, holding it within a couple inches of the IR sensor. Then, tap the IR button to be learned IRLinc will double-beep, and its LED will turn on solid. If IRLinc beeps eight times, remount the IR emitter and start over from step 1. 3.Test that the IR code has been learned by double-tapping the Set button on IRLinc IRLinc will beep The IR emitters will blink red while the IR device responds to the IR command If learning and testing was successful, you may continue installing or proceed to Linking. this says to double-tap the button after the IR is sent to the 2411T to test it, but the ISY says just to tap it. thanks, someguy
someguy Posted July 5, 2010 Author Posted July 5, 2010 and one more thing, if I'm not supposed to "link" the 2411T to the ISY outside of this "add a button" stuff, then why is the 2411T among the list of ISY devices that are listed that the ISY can link to in "new insteon device"? thanks, someguy
LeeG Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Not sure if this applies to the 2411T but for devices such as the EZSnsRF and EZX10RF which also have options under Link Management and I have defined to ISY, I added the devices to the ISY first using New Insteon Device. Then used the Link Management functions to add buttons/sensors/X10 codes to the respective devices which are displayed as additional Nodes. Adding the device first may be an unnecessary step but I did it for both the EZSnsRF and the EZX10RF devices. Also all codes do not have to be added at once. Being new to the ISY device, I added one Dakota Alert Sensor code and tested that. Then went back and added another Sensor code and tested that, and so on.
apostolakisl Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 The 2411t that SH is selling doesn't work with the ISY. I understand they still have the older firmware model available that does work, but if you didn't specifically request it, you would have the new firmware. As far as linking the 2411t, it doesn't link the unit per se, it links each infrared code almost as if it were its own device. So, no, you wouldn't linke the 2411t prior to linking IR codes.
Brian H Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 The 2411T can be added in the Link Management Tab. Add new Insteon/A10/X10 device. If you don't auto discover it is 03.07 in the manual choices. Though if there is a latest firmware problem in the 2411T not working. That could also be a problem.
someguy Posted July 6, 2010 Author Posted July 6, 2010 I was able to get the ISY to connect to the 2411T using "new insteon device" on the third or fourth try and it says that the software version is v.49. I bought this 2411T in November of last year. it says version 1.3 on the back of the unit.
Michel Kohanim Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 Hello someguy, I am glad that it worked. None of the new IRLinc TX firmware releases work with ISY and that's why SH has agreed to flash the older firmware (.49) for anyone requesting it. With kind regards, Michel

With kind regards, Michel I was able to connect the unit to the ISY using "New insteon device", but it does not work when I use "add new IR node to 2411T" (or whatever it is called. Any further advice? thanks, someguy
Michel Kohanim Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Hello someguy, Did you get a dialog with instructions when you added your IRLincTX? With kind regards, Michel
someguy Posted July 8, 2010 Author Posted July 8, 2010 Michel: when I added the IRLinc 2411T itself as an insteon device, it took a very long time and there were many progress bars going across, but there was not a detailed explanation as to how to handle it, if that is what you mean by dialog.
Michel Kohanim Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 Hello someguy, No, actually ISY should provide you with an instruction dialog on the steps required to link your 2411t. With kind regards, Michel
apostolakisl Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 I really you guys (ISY) need to create your own IR transmition solution. The insteon one is just not proving to be worth a darn.
Michel Kohanim Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 Hello apostolakisl, We did in fact try this route about 2 years ago but abandoned it since we didn't want to compete with SmartHome's products. We may resurrect it but I really do think a Global Caché solution will be much more elegant and functional. With kind regards, Michel
apostolakisl Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Global cache is just awfully pricey and at first glance seems like it is rather complex. When you think that your are already spending $369 for the ISY, then another $50 for the module, and I think like $250 for the global cache, it just adds up to a lot of money to allow ISY to do what a $10 universal remote can do.
Michel Kohanim Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Hello apostolakisl, I totally agree with you! The best and most elegant solution is IRLinc TX but, unfortunately, that's not working out either. We did have an IR out board all manufactured and ready to go but, considering the markup by distributors, our cost was WAY higher than Global Caché ... With kind regards, Michel
apostolakisl Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 So ya can't just yank the board out of one of those $10 universal guys and wire it into your board?
Michel Kohanim Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Hello apostolakisl, Which universal guys? We have to communicate with the unit using one of the interrupt pins on the CPU otherwise the response time would be worse than going to Ethernet back to Global Caché ! With kind regards, Michel So ya can't just yank the board out of one of those $10 universal guys and wire it into your board?
apostolakisl Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 I mean one of the universal remotes that you can buy for a few bucks like this one. http://www.buy.com/prod/xbox-360-univer ... 75285.html It seems like you could purchase a ready made board from somewhere in China for a couple bucks each (bulk order) and integrate it directly into the isy board. Let the ISY send the commands to the IR control board that would otherwise come from a keypad.
Michel Kohanim Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Hello apostolakisl, This is quite interesting ... if you find the cheap boards we can buy and communicate with using I2C, please let me know and we'll surely look into it. With kind regards, Michel
someguy Posted August 7, 2010 Author Posted August 7, 2010 Hello someguy, No, actually ISY should provide you with an instruction dialog on the steps required to link your 2411t. With kind regards, Michel I came back to this and here is how far I've gotten. I was able to get one node to show up in "my lighting", but there is no "current state", buttons or anything that could be done with this. Is that correct? After I finish step 7 of "Add button to IRLinc Transmitter" (click OK), the node showed up, but then when I try to add another button by repeating the process, at step 1, I double press the set button on the 2411T and it sends the same code that I taught it the first time to my TV, just like it did on step 3 (the testing the code step) before. It seems as though my unit can't get past step 3, even though I press the button for 3 seconds (step 4) and wait for the beep (step 5). Any ideas? I'm using a brand new PLM and a "rev 1.3" 2411T. thanks, someguy
Michel Kohanim Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Hello someguy, The problem is in the "brand new" ... unfortunately, you will have to ask SH to update your firmware to the previous release: there's a major problem reading the IR database with the new firmware. With kind regards, Michel

With kind regards, Michel Actually, it is my PLM that is "brand new". My 2411T is from november of last year and it has software version .49, which is the old version, I believe.

LeeG Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 The Event Log does not look like it was set for level 3 but since it says success that may not be needed. Are you using the Link Management | Add Button to IRLinc Transmitter to add additional nodes.
