Possibly switching from my ISY994i to eisy.

Before I go ahead and switch to this new system called eisy, I would like to know if there is some new system projected to take the place of the eisy anytime soon. If so, I'll switch to that system first. If not, then I'll take a look at switching to eisy.

I have a serial PLM for my ISY994i. I know you can just use a cable that UD supplies for the conversion to the eisy, but my PLM is over 10 serial PLM is over 10 years old. Would it not be wise to switch to something new? If so, what is the best option in everyone's opinion to switch to? 

The ISY994i system is so foolproof, I have not had to do anything to it for years. The problem with that is I tend to forget how I did some of the things because I never have to do anything to it. Good problem to have I guess. 

How hard is it to convert over to the eisy from the isy994i? I'll start looking at the process, but I don't like to spend money on something when what I have is working great.

If your PLM is working well so far, I wouldn't replace it. There were too many with weak power supplies inside in between times. However if your link count is high and you plan to expand you may want to get a more modern USB type PLM.

You may want to expand more devices that are not Insteon and then the link capabilty would be sufficient to keep. Getting a new USB type may be a good backup plan also. It sounds like you have a very quiet grid supply but with moving or electrical noisy neighbours moving close to you, you may want to accelerate your backup plans.

The PLM. It is a 2413S dual band and not the original 2412S single band version?

If it is a 2412S you may want to consider a replacement and if you are going to an eisy. Might as well then get a 2413U USB model.

As far as we know, eisy is it for the time being.

It's a matter of what you are comfortable with. But I would suggest that you obtain a new USB PLM, to have as a spare just in case.

Download a copy of the migration procedure from the wiki and read through it several times. Be sure to ask questions about anything that is not clear before hand.

 

You didn't mention what firmware you are currently running. There are minimum requirements for migrating to eisy, so you might need to do some firmware upgrades first.
