UDM "Kiosk" Mode?

Hi all.  Apologies if this has been addressed elsewhere, but my searches did not turn anything up.

In any case, I am wondering whether anybody here has found a way to configure UDM and/or an iPad to set up a limited, kiosk-type environment for guests and others to be able to defined programs or trigger defined scenes but nothing else in an environment where the house is "run" on an EISY.  The idea is to give people who aren't me limited ability to control the way a house operates without requiring my intervention, but to limit that control to within certain boundaries (i.e., let the house know you're there, or that you're leaving, or that you'd like the air conditioning on etc).  The hope would be to mount an old iPad on a wall somewhere to allow that limited control.

I'm open to non UDM solutions, as well.

Thanks all for whatever input you might have.

Doing it with UDM would require some type of option to lock it to the "favorites" screen, or something similar. Should be easy to implement as a new feature. Otherwise, you would need to create or find a custom app that allows you to define buttons that could trigger the sending of REST commands.

If I ever get around to one of my projects (a plugin to communicate with a Applied Digital Leopard screen), I'd do it that way myself, to display information and allow commands to be sent, though the appeal for this is much less now that we have things like Alexa.

Thank you Guy.  This seems like a likely start.  I'll have to figure out how best to lock down the iPad to one app (I've found a source on this pointing to something called "Guided Access") and to lock UDM to the favorites screen (as you pointed out) and to lock out within UDM any edits etc of the favorites and the favorites screen.

On the last point I know there is a "Lock Edits" option in UDM but to be honest I've not figure out how to make it work.  I'm sure I'm doing something wrong!

This would be nice.  My intercom system just got fried and can't be fixed unless I happen across some parts on ebay.   I already have CAT5 to all the locations and could install wall mounted tablets using poe.  To complete the picture, some sort of intercom system capability would be nice.  Maybe a tile in there that lets you video conference between different tablets.  I assume a third party tablet to tablet video streaming that you can plug-in as a tile?

That is a real pita.

Sounds possible, but would be low on our already long to-do list.

Some apps have intents which allow deep linking into the app, but I've only seen a handful that publish their intents.  Also a possibility to open another app from a UDM tile.

Have you tried Google Assistant/home broadcast feature?  I use it when I need the wife or kids to answer their phones when I'm out of the house 🙂  I think you can broadcast to specific devices, but the above is my only use case so have not looked into it.

That made me laugh!

(and I will use the Alexa equivalent with my family)
