Why do PLM link counts vary?

Featured Replies

I am worried that I will soon reach the limit for PLM listening for status changes and have been trying to use the Count feature of Show PLM Links Table . Unfortunately, I seem to get a different count each time I select to re-scan the PLM and then count. In the last 10 minutes, I have received counts of 26, 60, 336, 454, 592, and 772 for the same PLM. Since the PLM is directly connected to ISY, I wouldn't have thought there would be a communication problem when scanning the link table.

Do running programs or other Insteon activity in the house affect the scanning of the PLM for links? Will activity here stop a scan in progress?

In spite of this, everything appears to work normally in the house. Should I be worried about impending failure? Am I misusing this feature?

Thanks for your help!

Well I have a small system and my PLM Link Table count is a firm 77.

I did a test and sent some Insteon Commands from my RemoteLinc. One time the count was 41 another time 31.

This is with a 2413S Dual Band PLM. Which may also have been processing the RemteLinc RF commands.

Tried a X10 signal on the power line and it gave me a count of 46.

SwitchLinc Relay locally toggled on and off gave me a count of 22.

I am sure UDI may confirm this, but it does look like power line activity can effect the count.

Though you also maybe getting close to that 800 link thing.

Do you know the Hardware and Firmware revision of your PLM?

2412S or 2413S PLM?

Hello gviliunas and Brian,

Michel did in fact confirm that powerline activity interrupts the PLM Link count process. Sorry, I can't seem to locate that thread right now.

In short, you are not having comm problems and you are not misusing the feature.

In the past (when I've been serious about getting a link count) I've isolated the PLM behind two filter to prevent interruption. Things become even more difficult if you have a dual band PLM (I do not). You would likely need to remove accesspoints and disable other RF transmitters.

Oh that could be a problem if you had things like Motion Sensors.

You maybe able to get the family to not touch a switch but not move in a room with a motion sensor.

I like your tandem filter thing, but as you said my 2413S would still receive things like motion.
