Can we get an update on ELK integration?

Hi,

On Monday (02/28/2011) we shall have our 3.x beta cycle starting which includes variables (3.0.0). Although ELK will not be in 3.0.0, but it will be included in one of the releases in this cycle.

With kind regards,

Michel

Does this mean that a two-way network module upgrade is on the horizon? I could be wrong, but it seems like this would be necessary for the Elk plugin.

That would be awesome. Since I bought the network module, I haven't used it for a single thing. :(

Although ELK support would require two way network communication, it isn't necessarily a trivial thing to take that and abstract it to the point where it would be useful in a variety of HTTP/XML/Web Service scenarios. In fact, setting up a simple, yet powerful tool to do such a thing could be a downright hairy thing to design.

Don't get me wrong. I'd love to see it too, but not if it causes any delay with the ELK integration!

Hi Polexian,

Me too!

Yes, sure: we are working on it day and night (well, part of night). The reason for the delay is that we had to make incremental changes for seamless integration and not a one-off solution. You will see most of the incremental changes reflected in our WSDK and how we handle things.

I do apologize for it taking so long ... again, this is what we are currently working on as we speak.

So, does that mean it won't be a module but rather a feature by feature addition to the standard firmware upgrades?

And if so, what will be the first features and when might we see them?

The reason for the delay..

Who cares. :P

You guys are going to do what you do and release it when you release it and it's gonna be well worth the wait.

Hi - new to posting but do have a question - this module that you speak of will be a 2 way? It sounds as if it may work with other security systems, DSC GE Ademco ect which has many more users. Will each system need a serial module installed on the bus of the security system? Most of the panels have this option. Just thinking out loud here.

Thanks

Hi Peter,

Yes, it will be two way. The design is generic so, theoretically, we should be able to support other security systems. Communications must be through a serial to Ethernet device.

Hello apostolakisl,

I am scared to say soon since all my promises have been in vain. All I can say is that ELK is the only thing (apart from bug fixes and minor enhancements) we are working on now.

A watched pot never boils. And I've been watching this one very closely.

I would again suggest a twitter account so we can be notified about releases that way instead of having to check here. It would certainly cut down on my bandwidth needs. Thanks.

Hello ryarber,

Tweeter is on our list of things to do. We just have to figure out the expectations and who'll be responsible for it.

With kind regards,

Michel

What I would expect from it would be very simple. A tweet saying new beta or module releases are available with a link to the web page or forum post that describes the release.
