ISY remote access

I have a vacation home with no internet access. Is it possible to access the ISY remotely with just a phone line?

Have you checked into the various wireless Internet options? Sprint, ATT, T-Mobile, Verizon and Virgin Mobile all offer Internet over the wireless phone network now. Even if your vacation spot doesn't have cable or DSL access, you may still be able to connect to the web.

Yeah I can get a computer on the web using my Palm Pre as a mobile hot spot but that isn't my network. I don't think there is a way to use it on the network. Plus I would like to be able to dial into it on the way down to turn on the heat or a/c. I can get DSL but don't want to spend $60/month for that right now.

Is there a PC in your vacation home? You could add a program to the PC that when the phone rings 6 times (or get distinct ring feature), turn around and connect to the Internet via a modem and register the IP address through dynamic DNS service.

So you would call your house, wait a minute or two, and then access the PC and/or ISY over the Internet through a registered DNS name.

No PC that's why I got the ISY. I'll just have to do without for now.

Hi,

I had a similar situation where a location did not have a net connection, so I tried AT&T laptop connect usb device with a 3g router. After much investigation, this did NOT work when I wanted to remotely access the devices connected via the AT&T laptop connect and had to do with "mobile terminated data". Of course, calling at&t support, most didn't even know what this is. Fortunately I was able to get DSL installed in this location. So in closing, while net access while at the remote location using one of the many cellular 3g connections does work, remotely accessing this location does not work (unless you figure out how to get the cell provider to enable mobile terminated data).
