clark21236 Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 I have been looking over the ISY-26 and tried to view the demo page from universal-devices.com. I noticed in the setup for the ISY-26 that the browser they mention is Internet Explorer 7. Are no other browsers supported? My primary browser is Firefox, and I use Internet Explorer 6 for support of an older product. (It is just about done in the changes needed to use 7 without problems.) Is this the reason I can not look at the demo site? Quote
rowland Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 I've used Firefox with the ISY without any problems Quote
Sub-Routine Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 I don't believe there is a demo page. If you are clicking on MyISY that is a link for users. Rand Quote
yardman 49 Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 I have been using IE 6 all along with the ISY-26, and have not yet switched over to IE 7, so I know that IE 6 will indeed work. Best wishes Quote
Mark Sanctuary Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 I am using IE7, no problems here. The Java version is more of an issue than which browser. Quote

clark21236 Posted January 5, 2008 Author Posted January 5, 2008 I see on the Wiki they have a link to the My Insteon ISY http://www.universal-devices.com/MyInsteonISY/ This is what I was referring to on a previous posting. What is this for? To me it appears that it should be a demo site, but that is not the case. If I use it, and try to close the ISY interface with the Exit command from the menu, it hoses up Firefox every time. Wasssuuuppp with that? Thanks for any insight. Steve Quote
Mark Sanctuary Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Nope that is not a demo, that link launches your ISY. There may be a bug for Firefox. Try emptying your browser cache, that might fix it. Also what verson of the ISY firmware do you have? Quote
clark21236 Posted January 5, 2008 Author Posted January 5, 2008 Mark, Thanks for the reply. That is what I am trying to explain, I don't have an ISY. And I empty my browser cache every time my browser closes, so that can't be an issue for me. Quote
Mark Sanctuary Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Without the ISY the link is useless. Michel, Does that link have a graceful exit if it does not find any ISY to launch? Quote
Sub-Routine Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Steve, that link is a way to access a users ISY over the internet. I don't know how it works, but obviously it should be able to deal with the error you are seeing. BTW, the link (if you have an ISY) works fine with Firefox. Rand Quote
clark21236 Posted January 5, 2008 Author Posted January 5, 2008 Rand, Thanks for the info. I guess it seemed weird to me. I work in commercial HVAC automation for a living, and when I see a link like that, I assume it is taking you someplace where there is a device. When I saw a page that looked like the stuff in the ISY literature, I "assumed" it was a ISY somewhere that was not functioning properly. I guess to me, it seems weird that you would have to go to the Universal Devices site to view your own ISY. Why wouldn't you just log into it locally? Maybe this is weird to me because I do it for a living, and I am guessing they are doing some of this to make it more user friendly for the average Joe. Waiting for my Insteon started kit to get here. Once I start swapping out some X-10 stuff, I am sure more Insteon will follow. Waiting to see what the ISY-99 is like before I purchase a controller. I also see Smarthome is revamping their stuff. I had some conversations with them over the last year or so and they were supposed to have a Insteon replacement for the 1132cu, which for all reality would be something like the ISY-26. I think I'll wait until the ISY-99 is out, and maybe the new Smarthome stuff is out before I go that route. I hope it happens quickly though. I was just out figuring how I was going to swap out my pool pump timer and go Insteon. I think a inlinelinc controlling a 110volt coil contactor is going to be my cheapest route. Thanks for the info all. Steve Quote

The nice thing about the ISY is it is accessable from muitiple locations; the weblink (which you can drag and drop an icon to your desktop so you don't have to go to the website), My Network Places, and direct IP address.
