Custom Commands? EZ Flora command set?

How does one send custom (Insteon) commands to a device (EZ Flora) via the ISY-99i?

The current ISY-99i EZ Flora implementation does not give access to all the features of the EZ Flora. I’m sure at this point many readers are saying just program in the ISY-99i. Yes, that is an option and I’ve looked at some excellent examples. But that leaves the EZ Flora underutilized and makes ISY-99i programming more complex. It is a lot easier to program the ISY-99i to tell the EZ Flora to run Program # 2 vs having to control every valve.

I’m sure as I venture further into the Insteon world I will encounter other devices that could benefit from custom commands. Yes, it would be great if the ISY-99i had every Insteon device made, with every option the device offers, in its library. But that may not be practical. But being able send a custom command string would give this functionality.

Hi Kevin,

Yes, because ISY currently manages all communications with devices using atomic operations. We do very well know what every bit of information does, where it goes, and what the outcome should be. We also know what exceptions we should take into consideration. And, most importantly, we make Restore points to which you can always return.

Now, if we open up sending arbitrary INSTEON commands through ISY, we run the risk of not being able to help our customers figure out where the problems are if any. And, we can never run a Restore device.

With kind regards,

Michel
