gokou88
Hi, I am totally green newbie to this Insteon stuff so please bare with me. I recently purchased an ISY99 and a PLM dual-band modem from Smarthome along with a Venstar 1-day thermostat with Insteon adapter and a SwitchLinc Dimmer (non dual-band). After installation, I was able to get the SwitchLinc to show up in the ISY in the web interface after linking.... but I couldn't get the thermostat to show up at all. I've tried moving the ISY/PLM to different locations in the house and even in the same room as the thermostat and still no go. Here are my steps to link the thermostat.... 1) set ISY web interface to linking mode (PLM led starts blinking) 2) make sure the thermostat is set to Off 3) press and hold the Set button on the thermostat until the LCD blinks once and the LED on the adapter starts blinking After that nothing happens and the linking mode times out. So my question is...do I need additional hardware for the ISY to 'see' the thermostat? or is the thermostat adapter defective? or is there something I have to do on the software side? Thanks for your time -newb
Illusion
I think maybe you are using the "Start Linking" function in the ISY Try this: Under link management select New Insteon Device. Type the address of the t-stat adapter in the first field. Pick a name of your choice. Try leaving device type as Auto Discover. If that does not work try again selecting the proper device type. Do make sure the t-stat is in the off mode. You have all the parts and pieces to make this work...
gokou88
Ok, I will try the manual ID input method. But....I thought the "Start Linking" method is supposed to automatically detect the thermostat through RF? Am I wrong?
Illusion
I am not sure. I have added 5 adapters but never use the tap linking method for any insteon device.
Michel Kohanim
Hello gokou88, You should be able to use both. But, please do make sure that your thermostat mode is OFF before you try linking: http://www.universal-devices.com/mwiki/ ... superfreq
I am having similar issues installing my Venstar insteon thermostat. My understanding was that I do not need an extra AP if the ISY99 is close to it. Maybe that is my issue? I am about 15ft from the thermostat with the ISY99. Every time I link I get the error "[-200000] Node not added - failed reading links". I have tried to use the manual entry method (how I entered all of my other insteon devices) and tried using the link method too. Any other advice? Am I wrong about the dual band plm isy99i I got from SH? Do I still need an Access Point?
Michel Kohanim
Hello superfreq, Is your PLM dual band? If not, then you do need Access Points. Also, you have to make sure your thermostat is in off mode before you try adding it to ISY. With kind regards, Michel
superfreq
Thanks for responding Michel, I checked my PLM, it is a 2412S http://www.smarthome.com/2413S/PowerLinc-Modem-INSTEON-Serial-Interface-Dual-Band/p.aspx which is supposed to be Duel Band. I moved the whole thing upstairs so it is closer to the thermostat and it is still not working. When you say it needs to be "off" I am assuming you mean that I press the mode button until it says "off" on the screen and then proceed as I would for any other insteon device. If that is the case, then yes I have tried it in the off mode. Is there anything else I should be worried about?
superfreq
One interesting thing I just noticed is the link I added on the last post was the model without a pass through for the power. Mine has a pass through but the model number is the same. Not sure if that makes a difference.
fitzpatri8
Thanks for responding Michel,I checked my PLM, it is a 2412S http://www.smarthome.com/2413S/PowerLinc-Modem-INSTEON-Serial-Interface-Dual-Band/p.aspx which is supposed to be Duel Band. I moved the whole thing upstairs so it is closer to the thermostat and it is still not working. If that is the case, then yes I have tried it in the off mode. Is there anything else I should be worried about? Those are two different devices. The current model (2413S) is dual-band. The discontinued unit you have (2412S) is single-band, power line only. You will need to add a dual-band unit (Access Point/Dual-Band LampLinc) to communicate via RF with the thermostat adapter. Brian H
The PLM with the pass through AC outlet on it is the 2412S and can supply power to the ISY99i. The PLM with the blank case is the 2413S Dual Band PLM and requires the external power supply for the ISY99i. Check it model number on the back of the PLM. As the present Smarthome link directs searches for the discontinued 2412S to the present 2413S model. The 2412S does not have an RF receiver in it and will not communicate with a Thermostat Adapter. superfreq
Whoops, that is indeed my problem. I looked up the model number on google and got that link to smarthome without verifying the model number. AP has been ordered. Thanks guys!
