Buzzed Posted October 18, 2011 Share Posted October 18, 2011 I have a new Elk M1 Gold alarm system that we are installing. At over 3,000 feet of alarm wire that has been run I am at a point that I need to get the ISY-99i up and running but it doesn't seem to want to cooperate. All I see other than the power LED is an occasional red (error and blue (memory) led briefly light and then go back out. I am running Windows XP and I have tried connecting the 99i into my network hub as well as using the serial cable directly to the PC with the same results. AVG and Windows firewalls have both been shut off but still no communication. In my network place I see no lighting icon. The instructions don't seem to cover a lot of ground on troubleshooting so I'm hoping someone here might give me a clue as to what I need to do to get this up and running. apostolakisl Posted October 18, 2011 Share Posted October 18, 2011 Have you tried accessing the unit using the java applet? http://www.universal-devices.com/99i/3.1.9/admin.jnlp This downloads the applet, installs it, then finds the isy on your network and opens the admin console. You will need to substitute 3.1.9 for whatever firmware is in your unit, although, I am pretty sure it will still find and open a connection to the isy even with the wrong version, not 100% on that. LeeG Posted October 18, 2011 Share Posted October 18, 2011 Buzzed The Serial connection labeled Port A connects to the Smarthome PLM. What type PLM are you using? The Network Port connects to the router. The ISY defaults to DHCP so the router should be assigning a local IP address to the ISY. Does the router show an IP address assigned to the ISY? Assuming the ISY/PLM combo was purchased from Smarthome or UDI it came with firmware at 2.8.16 which is the latest Official firmware release. After clearing the Java cache use http://www.universal-devices.com/99i/2.8.16/admin.jnlp to access the Admin Console level that matches the ISY firmware you most likely have. Michel Kohanim Posted October 19, 2011 Share Posted October 19, 2011 Hi Buzzed, Apologies for the inconvenience. If ONLY the error light is blinking, then the problem is file system related. What you might want to do is to make sure that the SD Card (on the left) is plugged in securely. If BOTH the error light as well as the mem light blink, then the problem is that ISY cannot communicate with your router. Buzzed Posted October 19, 2011 Author Share Posted October 19, 2011 At this point in time power and RX are both on all the time. Error and memory seem to be doing a slow blink. Tx never comes on. The 99i is presently connected directly to the PC via a serial cable. So if I'm not using a Ethernet cable to my DSL router shouldn't this 99i communicate instantly with the PC? Michel Kohanim Posted October 19, 2011 Share Posted October 19, 2011 Hi Buzzed, If you want to connect directly to a PC: 1. You must use a cross over Ethernet cable (not provided with ISY) 2. You have to use a serial port to configure ISY to use a static IP address and a subnet which is the same as your computers If you do have a router, it's best to connect ISY directly to the router. Buzzed Posted October 19, 2011 Author Share Posted October 19, 2011 OK I removed the serial cable and connected a cable from the network port on the 99i to the DSL router. Once in the program I hit the about button to get the following message. If you guys can guide me through this in plain English I would really appreciate it. If you're telling me that it is normal for the 99i to report that Internet Access is disabled and that i can't see the 99i in my network place then I'll move forward. I really don't think that's the case according to what little documentation that I am seeing on this product. If the 99i is supposed to have Internet access I would be grateful for some assistance in making that happen. When folks start talking about IPs and gateway connections I'm lost. Can you explain to me please how the 99i functions if it can't find or see the Internet? When I 1st started the M1XEP the module had a discoverable mode that made setup a breeze, to bad the 99i doesn't use a similar setup. I would like to add that I am a moderator at the MikroKopter.us website with over 3000 posts assisting other members who have problems with set up of their MKs and I treat each and every one of them like seasoned pilots. Guys I really do appreciate your assistance here. It would appear from your screen shot above that your pc is running the java console and is connected to the isy. You should be able to control the isy and start linking devices. You might consider updating your firmware as you are currently running a pre-variable version. The ISY "internet access" enabled only allows you to access the admin console from outside the lan. It doesn't mean that the isy is not connected to the internet. Unless you want to program your ISY from outside your lan, you don't need to turn it on. I don't have mine on. If you want to use your isy from outside the lan, I suggest you get mobile linc pro or touchswitch. Mobile linc pro is an application for iphones that works very well, virtually instant. Touchswitch works over any web browser which is nice, but there is a second or two delay sometimes as it runs over http. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

What brand and version number? I have had Avast's latest cause problems and Zone Alarm had to have the ISY's address added to the Trusted Zone.
