FilterLincs causing noise?

I have 2 FilterLincs in trying to improve my Insteon signals in a new home, but both FilterLincs seem to cause problems when in use. When I plug my UPS into the FilterLinc (bottom outlet), the PLM LED appears to go "Off", with occasional flickers of light. Could these both be bad? Here's what I've seen with both:

FilterLinc plugged in by intself: OKAY

FilterLinc with 100W bulb plugged into it: OKAY

UPS plugged directly into the outlet (No FilterLincs): OKAY

UPS Plugged into the (bottom) plug of FilterLinc: PLM LED goes off, and ISY flashes "Mem/Error" leds.

I also tried plugging my UPS into an Appliance link, to try to isolate it from the powerline, and the PLM seems okay then, BUT the ApplianceLinc LED turns off, with occasional flashes of light.

Thoughts?? Thanks!

The PLM isn't connected to the UPS power output?

I have my APC BX1000 UPS on a 10 amp Filterlinc and the PLM is in the Filterlincs pass through outlet. I don't see any problem with the way mine is working.

Hello CJVann,

My best guess would be that your UPS is very unhappy with the added impedance of the Filterlinc and is oscillating on start up (when you plug it in). I'll see this frequently on motor inverter controls, but am surprised to hear you're having the problem with a UPS.

Please post back the UPS make/model.

Thanks for the feedback. That helped resolve the issue. I removed the troublesome UPS (TrippLite Smart 700 Net, 700VA 450W Output) and replaced it with an APC Smart-UPS SC 420, 420A, 260W. No more noise on the PLM. Also note that I found the problem only occurred when any combination of 2 computers and/or a monitor were plugged into the UPS. If none of those devices were plugged into the UPS, there was no noise present even with a 100W load attached to the UPS.
