johnnyt Posted January 3, 2012 Share Posted January 3, 2012 I have a KPL relay where the load is stuck ON (even when I air gap the thing - is that possible? it doesn't seem right - how do I turn the light off??) I linked a new one in (spare I kept in inventory of the same type and version -> a 6 button KPL relay v36 converted to 8 button operation), did a find/replace on all the programs, saved programs, then did a right click on bad device to "replace with" good device. New device names disappear from my network (replaced with old device names, presumably) but all my programs end up with where the new device should now be. Have done this three times now. Have re-read the wiki instructions each time to make sure I'm taking all the right steps in the right order. What am I doing wrong? Am running firmware 3.1.11. Link to comment
LeeG Posted January 3, 2012 Share Posted January 3, 2012 The Program and Scene changes should not have been done before the Replace. The Replace does all that. Since the Replace no longer finds the old address in Programs or Scene it cannot change the old references to the new address. Link to comment

Also I still need to be able to replace one of these things. can you confirm the steps I have to follow? Link to comment
LeeG Posted January 3, 2012 Share Posted January 3, 2012 Could have been a small power glitch, could be a device on the way out. Just have to wait and see. I have found that very small power drops have more adverse affects than a full outage that lasts for minutes or hours. Also make sure the device is not being overloaded. Excess heat can be a factor. Do not change Programs or Scenes. The Replace xxx With does all that. The Program device name should not change. It references the old name and continues to reference the old name but the old name will have the new device address after the Replace with finishes. Add new KPL. Right click old KPL and select Replace xxxx With .... selecting new device. Lots of processing changing all link records affected (Scenes) and Program references. Again the Program device name reference should not change as the old device name remains in the My Lighting tree. Just all the references will have the new device address rather than the old device address. Link to comment
johnnyt Posted January 3, 2012 Author Share Posted January 3, 2012 Am sure that's what I did the 1st time. Either the routine quit on me or I didn't wait long enough for it to finish. I just found myself looking at a summary tab with a bunch of programs that said " - not saved -" and a system that was "Ready" (none of the usual "do not change or unplug attached devices...") As Lee said, don't do anything prior to a "replace with". Don't change programs, don't change scenes, don't change anything. .. except, you need to remove the device from a folder if it is in one and just have it under the main "my lighting" area. After a "replace with" command has completed, it should automatically close the admin console. If it didn't you would need to manually close it and re-open it. If it looks like it has "hung", you should close and re-open your admin console. After a "replace with" has completed, I do check all the programs to make sure they went through correctly. Scenes on the other hand shouldn't need to be checked. Link to comment
