PLM Compatibility with ISY 99i?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I've been using INSTEON devices for a while now (manual control and MobiLink HD on iPhone/iPad) and am just beginning my foray into the ISY world. My INSTEON starter kit came with a PLM (2412N) so I didn't buy a PLM with my ISY 99i, but I now see that I am supposed to have an "S" model (Serial) PLM vice the "N" model PLM I already have.

Before I spend the money to replace PLMs, I was hoping to confirm that the Serial PLM is required and not just preferred. If the "N" model is compatible, are there any special tricks to getting the ISY to talk to the PLM?

Thanks for any assistance.

The 2412N Smartlinc is not compatible.

You need a 2412S or 2413S PLM.

The RJ45 connector on the 2412S and 2413S may look like a network connector but they have RS232 serial signals on them. Not a network connection like the 2412N has.

The 2412S is discontinued and replaced by the 2413S Dual Band PLM.

Since the 2413S does not provide power to the ISY99i like the 2412S did. Also get the optional power supply that fits the DC input jack on the ISY99i.

You can also use the SimpleHomeNet EZIComm. It's functionally equivalent to the discontinued 2412S. It's not dual band, but I like it because it's one less wall wart to deal with.
