craigf Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I recently upgraded to 3.2.0 to fix my motion sensor. Unfortunately, after the upgrade my thermostat was having a communication problem. I have deleted the thermostat but now it will not add back in. It is rev 2.30 of the 2491T1E. I have upgraded to 3.2.4 and it still does not link. I have attached the diagnostics. The thermostat was in linking mode and the off setting when I performed the Add New Insteon device. I entered the address, name and manually choose the device. Thanks, Craig
LeeG Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 The trace shows all commands sent to the adaptor are timing out. Either the adaptor is not getting the commands or it is not responding with an answer. Note the 9 second time between some of the trace entries. This is the ISY waiting for the device to send a response. Try adding without putting it into linking mode. Although it is an RF device it is powered from the tstat so there is no need for it to sleep like other RF devices. If available put a spare Access Point closer to the adaptor location. Here is what the Wiki indicates is the sequence for adding the tstat adaptor Ensure the thermostat is in the OFF mode before linking to the ISY Use Link Management | Start Linking Press and hold the Set button on the thermostat for 3-5 seconds
craigf Posted April 12, 2012 Author Posted April 12, 2012 Lee, I put an extra access point in a plug about 3 feet away and then tried linking it without putting it in link mode. That didn't help. I also tried to link it by making sure it was in the off position and using the Add Insteon device method. Still no success. Craig
LeeG Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 If an existing pluggable device such as a LampLinc or ApplianceLinc can be plugged into the same outlet as the extra Access Point. If the LampLinc/ApplianceLinc can be controlled from the Admin Console or other Controller that is currently linked to it to verify Insteon powerline signals get there, the only other thing I can think of is to factory rest the adaptor and run another trace of the Start Linking process but I would not expect it to be any different then the first trace.
craigf Posted April 14, 2012 Author Posted April 14, 2012 I have an extra dual band Lamplink that I plugged into the same outlet. It operated without any issue. I also did a factory reset a couple of times with out any change. I also went back to an older version of the ISY software and nothing seems to help. At this point, I guess I will take the thermostat back to Smarthome and try another. It is odd that it worked for 5 months and then just quit, but hopefully that is the issue. Thanks.
Michel Kohanim Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 Hi craigf, Any baby monitors? With kind regards, Michel
craigf Posted April 16, 2012 Author Posted April 16, 2012 Michel, Thankfully, no, at least not in our house. I can't think of anything new that we have in our house since it lost the communications. I don't know if there is any way to troubleshoot the thermostat independently. Is there such a thing as a "ping" for the Insteon network? Craig
Michel Kohanim Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Hi Craig, Unfortunately not that I know. I think the adapter is defective. With kind regards, Michel
craigf Posted April 19, 2012 Author Posted April 19, 2012 Michel and Lee, Thanks for the help. Returned it for a new one it it instantly linked with no problems. I used the add new insteon device, put in the address and model and worked right away. Guess these new integrated models aren't good for much more than a couple months.....
