GuitarBuilder Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 I would like to see the ability to read and control the ThinkEco Modlets. These units are a very good design from a hardware standpoint; they measure energy consumption and allow on/off control for duplex outlets. The factory monitoring (via USB stick) and software (web-based) really suck. I would love to integrate them into my ISY since the modules are so superior to the Insteon products. The communications protocol appears to be Zigbee. Thanks!
Michel Kohanim Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Hello GuitarBuilder, We did have a brief discussion with them a while back but we were not given access to their APIs. With kind regards, Michel
GuitarBuilder Posted July 17, 2012 Author Posted July 17, 2012 Bummer! Would you like me to put in a request with them?
Michel Kohanim Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Hello GuitarBuilder, Up to you but I think they consider us competition . With kind regards, Michel
GuitarBuilder Posted July 18, 2012 Author Posted July 18, 2012 Hi Michel, I've used 5 Modlets in my home over the past 6 months and have provided extensive feedback to ThinkEco during that time. The hardware design and performance is superior to anything I've seen from Insteon (I have many of those as well) and it would be a real plus to be able to mix and match these two technologies in one ISY-controlled environment. I hope you don't mind, but I contacted ThinkEco's CTO and recommended that he reconsider giving you access to their API's. I told him that if I were forced to choose between the two systems, I would go with the ISY and I believe others would do the same. In the end, I think it would be a win-win situation for both of you. Please let me know if you hear from him; I will do the same. Cheers, Peter P.S. I'd be happy to do some beta testing for you.
Michel Kohanim Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Hi GuitarBuilder, Thanks so very much for your kind words. We'll wait for them to contact us (I highly doubt it though). With kind regards, Michel
