System Busy and Communication Error

About two weeks ago my home ISY just started to show many communication errors. Now when I log in to the ISY, it show system busy for about 10 minutes as it cycles through many "making adjustments". During this process I get many "cannot communicate" errors.

I go through the logs and cannot find what the issue is. I have not changed the configuration much before this happened and it has been running fine for over 2 years.

I have added nothing new to the house that would cause an interference.

Not sure where to start looking as to what to fix.

Run Tools | Diagnostics | Event Viewer with Level 3. That will show the commands and devices that are failing. Developing comm problems over time is not unusual. Some CFLs get noisy over time. Other electronic equipment can also become noisy. Treat it like a comm problem even though nothing has appeared to change. Not uncommon to not think about something that has changed recently but not associated with powerline reliability.

Could have lost a Dual Band device being used for phase coupling. Or one got moved to a different outlet during cleaning or whatever and not put back on the opposite 120v leg.

Could also be a PLM that is going bad but I would rule out all other possibilities before replacing a PLM.

Okay, I have been struggling with this for about a week. This is a very large system and I can't seem to get it to work at all. I tried to monitor the communication errors but it was making no sense.

I took a PLM from another system and installed it on my home system. I did a restore PLM but the system continues to cycle in busy mode and will not stop. It continually goes from 1% to 100% on all different kinds of updates. It does this for hours and hours. I try to unplug the ISY or restart and it just starts back up. I can control the switches which is an improvement from the old PLM

I installed the old PLM in my office (small system) and restored the PLM. I cannot control any of the switches at all for the office.

I believe the original PLM is bad but I can't get the replacement PLM to work on my home system.

Any suggestions ?

After installing the new PLM, and before doing a Restore Modem (PLM), was the ISY rebooted?

The ISY has to be rebooted before doing the Restore so it identifies the new PLM address. Otherwise it is restoring using the old PLM address.

Yes, I did unplug both, plugged in the PLM first then the ISY.

I do have my main home system settled down. Two issues still not resolved.

1) Morninig Linc won't connect or talk to the system. I can manually push the button that locks then unlocks the door but I cannot control via the ISY and the status is not correct. How can I update these units ?

2) Motion Detectors do not all register their status. How can I update these units. When I did the PLM restore I did not go around to all of the sensors and put them in setup mode. I have sensors in the system and by the time I went to each one the first ones would time out. Even if I just did one, the PLM resotore takes so long (multiple hours) that they motion detectors quickly time out.

My office ISY just informed it was in safe mode so the PLM is shot and I am getting it replaced.

The MorningLinc has to be deleted and added back to the ISY. The MorningLinc is very security oriented. The commands to update the link records came from what to it was an outside PLM. Suggest factory reset of MorningLinc to eliminate the link records with the old PLM address, then follow the Wiki instructions for adding a MorningLinc. They have to be followed exactly. The MorningLinc factory reset does not erase the link to the lockset as that information is maintained in the lockset.

I would expect the motion sensors to have pending updates. Put one into linking mode with its Set button. Right click the motion sensor - sensor node, select Write updates to device. When one is complete do the next.

I replaced the PLM and everything is back up and running normally.

I also deleted and then added the Morninglincs and all seems to be running as it should.

Thanks
